Women Share The Ways They Were Body-Shamed And It’s Just Too Horrible To Read Like our facebook page: https://goo.gl/aQ1m4g Join our facebook group "Scoop Family": https://goo.gl/WivD1V Sally Bergensen is the CEO of Oiselle, a Seattle-based athletic apparel company by women, for women. She recently took to Twitter to share a body-shaming story from her childhood that, despite taking place when she was just twelve, is clearly something she's never forgotten. "Keep eating like that and you're going to be a butterball," her father had said to her, and now she's encouraging other women to share their experiences of being body-shamed by using the hashtag #TheySaid. And as you can see below, many women were quick to come forward with their own stories of friends, family, and sometimes total strangers making hurtful comments about their shape, size, or weight. The hashtag has even spawned a sister hastag called #SheReplied, which people are using to share ways to respond to the next person who says something unpleasant about them. Manda's video showing how she lived under a bridge homeless: A HOMELESS WOMAN Shows Us Why It Feels Good to Give https://youtu.be/mQ2RBLLy54w Manda's Invisible People interview: Living under a bridge doesn't stop this homeless woman from staying positive https://youtu.be/xYShiXMGULE In the video description of the vlog where Manda gives us a tour of her homeless camp in Seattle [https://youtu.be/xYShiXMGULE], I wrote that when Manda and I first met online that I never imagined I'd be having coffee with her under that bridge. Fast forward a few weeks, and now I am in awe that I had the honor of taking Manda furniture shopping for her new apartment. We also went out and gave socks to new homeless friends. One of the reasons I love Hanes is they genuinely want to help people. Each homeless person that participated in this years campaign, Hanesbrands Inc. offered additional support above the compensation they received for working with the campaign. David received first months rent and security deposit for his new apartment and additional funds for furniture when he moved out of a homeless shelter. Hanes paid for Mary's college tuition and bought her a laptop. While she was still under the bridge, Hanes paid for Amanda's phone service for a year. It's a miracle that Manda got housing. Manda did all the hard work, and she gets all the credit for getting out of homelessness, but the one tool that helped her the most was the smartphone and mobile services that gave her the ability to contact social services and health services. It's truly amazing that Manda is now in housing, but there are tens of thousands of homeless people that still need help. I hope that you'll be encouraged by this video and get a few smiles, but please know getting someone up off the streets is never easy! DISCLOSURE: Hanesbrands Inc. compensated me for my time traveling to Seattle to take a formerly homeless woman shopping. This video is independent of that agreement, and Hanes did not compensate Invisible People or me for this video. ________________________________________________ Subscribe here: https://www.youtube.com/c/invisiblepeople?sub_confirmation=1 Invisible People’s website: http://invisiblepeople.tv Support Invisible People: https://invisiblepeople.tv/donate On Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/invisiblepeople Invisible People’s Social Media: https://www.youtube.com/invisiblepeople https://twitter.com/invisiblepeople https://www.instagram.com/invisiblepeople https://www.facebook.com/invisiblepeopletv Mark Horvath’s Twitter: https://twitter.com/hardlynormal About Invisible People: Since its launch in November 2008, Invisible People has leveraged the power of video and the massive reach of social media to share the compelling, gritty, and unfiltered stories of homeless people from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. The vlog (video blog) gets up close and personal with veterans, mothers, children, layoff victims and others who have been forced onto the streets by a variety of circumstances. Each week, they’re on InvisiblePeople.tv, and high traffic sites such as YouTube, Twitter and Facebook, proving to a global audience that while they may often be ignored, they are far from invisible. Invisible People goes beyond the rhetoric, statistics, political debates, and limitations of social services to examine poverty in America via a medium that audiences of all ages can understand, and can’t ignore. The vlog puts into context one of our nation’s most troubling and prevalent issues through personal stories captured by the lens of Mark Horvath – its founder – and brings into focus the pain, hardship and hopelessness that millions face each day. One story at a time, videos posted on InvisiblePeople.tv shatter the stereotypes of America’s homeless, force shifts in perception and deliver a call to action that is being answered by national brands, nonprofit organizations and everyday citizens now committed to opening their eyes and their hearts to those too often forgotten. Invisible People is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to changing the way we think about people experiencing homelessness.

http://www.duboislaw.net/Dividing-Property/ Today we want to talk about property and asset division in a Seattle divorce. How is property divided in a Seattle divorce and what can you do to assure that everything is properly accounted for and you get your "fair share" so to speak? You need to begin by creating a Divorce Spreadsheet, and listing all of your marital assets as well as anything that can be classified as a separate asset - in other words, did either party own something of value prior to getting married that was not purchased with community money. Did you husband or you own a car previous to marriage? That would be a potential example of separate property. On your spreadsheet, we need to account for the asset, whether commmunity property or separate property, define the value of that asset and then define any debt on that asset in order to arrive at the net value of your assets. So this means if you own a home together, you are going to need to get it appraised. If you have cars, you need to determine their value by going to a source like Kelly's Bluebook. How about savings accouts, checking accouts and the value of any retirement plans held by either party? We need to account for those assets also. Is there a business involved, how about business assets, valuation of business, cash on hand and in the bank, etc. This information needs to go on your divorce spreadsheet. Now how about unsecured debt? Do you have credit cards and balances owing, all of this is taken into consideration when you get to court. It is critically important you have as accurate a picture as possible for your finances as the courts will use this information. The Seattle Divorce courts will use this information in making their determinations in your Seattle Divorce. In Washington, all property generated by the two parties during the years they were a couple is generally considered community property (or marital property) and is up for division. This includes retirement account benefits. The law in Washington (and thus in your Seattle Divorce case) starts with an assumption that community property will be split 50-50. However, from there the court will consider a variety of factors that could lead to different percentages. For example, when one party is the higher wage earner, the courts may attempt to put the parties in a closer economic position after the divorce through property division and spousal maintenance. Fifty/fifty is just the starting point. There are various legal factors that can tip a property distribution in favor of one spouse. You had better be sure you have an attorney who has enough experience in the courtroom to know how judges are viewing property distribution, so you can get the best possible result in your Seattle divorce. Reupload of a previously uploaded film with improved video & sound. Public domain film from the Library of Congress Prelinger Archives, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and one-pass brightness-contrast-color correction & mild video noise reduction applied. The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original). http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Century_21_Exposition The Century 21 Exposition (also known as the Seattle World's Fair) was a World's Fair held April 21, 1962, to October 21, 1962 in Seattle, Washington. Nearly 10 million people attended the fair. Unlike some other World's Fairs of its era, Century 21 made a profit. As planned, the exposition left behind a fairground and numerous public buildings and public works; some credit it with revitalizing Seattle's economic and cultural life (see History of Seattle since 1940). The fair saw the construction of the Space Needle and Alweg monorail, as well as several sports venues and performing arts buildings (most of which have since been replaced or heavily remodeled). The site, slightly expanded since the fair, is now called Seattle Center; the United States Science Pavilion is now the Pacific Science Center. Another notable Seattle Center building, the Experience Music Project, was built nearly 40 years later and deliberately designed to fit in with the fairground atmosphere... The fair was originally conceived in 1955 to mark the 50th anniversary of the 1909 Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition, but it soon became clear that that date was too ambitious. With the Space Race underway and Boeing having "put Seattle on the map" as "an aerospace city", a major theme of the fair was to show that "the United States was not really 'behind' the Soviet Union in the realms of science and space." As a result, the themes of space, science, and the future completely trumped the earlier conception of a "Festival of the [American] West... The World of Commerce and Industry was divided into domestic and foreign areas. The former was sited mainly south of American Way (the continuation of Thomas Street through the grounds), an area it shared with the World of Science. It included the Space Needle and what is now the Broad Street Green and Mural Amphitheater. The Hall of Industry and some smaller buildings were immediately north of American Way. The latter included 15 governmental exhibitors and surrounded the World of Tomorrow and extended to the north edge of the fair. Among the features of Domestic Commerce and Industry, the massive Interiors, Fashion, and Commerce Building spread for 500 feet (150 m)—nearly the entire Broad Street side of the grounds—with exhibits ranging from 32 separate furniture companies to the Encyclopædia Britannica. Vogue produced four fashion shows daily alongside a perfumed pool. The Ford Motor Company, in its pavilion, presented a simulated space flight and its vision for the car of the future, the Ford Seattle-ite XXI. The Electric Power Pavilion included a 40 feet (12 m)-high fountain made to look like a hydroelectric dam, with the entrance to the pavilion through a tunnel in said "dam." The Forest Products Pavilion was surrounded by a grove of trees of various species, and included an all-wood theater. Standard Oil of California celebrated, among other things, the fact that the world's first service station opened in Seattle in 1907. The fair's Bell Telephone exhibit was featured in a short film called "Century 21 Calling...", which was later shown on Mystery Science Theater 3000. There were also several religious pavilions. Near the center of all this was Seattle artist Paul Horiuchi's massive mosaic mural, the region's largest work of art at the time, which now forms the backdrop of Seattle Center's Mural Amphitheater...

After finishing grad school, Sam Gambling decided that a tiny house would be a perfect fit for her lifestyle. She wanted to remain in Vancouver, BC to be near work, family and friends; but the cost of living in the city was incredibly high. She also wanted to be able to work a not-for-profit job without worrying if she'd have enough money for rent each month. Last but not least, tiny houses were a housing solution that fit well with her environmental sustainability values. She knew tiny houses weren't legal in the city, but she went ahead and hired a builder, and began construction on her tiny house in 2016 anyway. After a few months, she realized that it was harder than she thought to find an urban parking spot for a tiny house. She did receive many offers to park her tiny house in rural areas though. After meeting other people in the tiny house world who were encountering the same issue, she co-founded the BC Tiny House Collective with Anastasia Koutalianos to try and legalize and legitimize tiny houses in the province of British Columbia, and in Metro Vancouver. The two women are working with partners and volunteers to do research, outreach, consultations, tiny house builds, and pilot projects to make tiny houses legal. BC Tiny House Collective: http://bctinyhousecollective.com/ For the time being, Sam isn't living in her tiny house. She's waiting for a pilot project opportunity so that she can legally live in her home. The tiny house is 10 feet wide, and was built using some reclaimed materials for things like the trim and the cork flooring. The house is designed to collect rainwater for landscaping and gardening, it has a vermi-composting toilet, full kitchen with a propane stove, two electric heaters, and a 120 Volt extension cord to power the house. We know there will probably be questions about the conveyor belt toilet! It's sold by Toilet Tech Solutions and you can find out more about it here: http://www.toilettech.com/urine-diversion.html We hope you enjoy the full tour of Sam's house on wheels even though it isn't completely finished yet :) Thanks for watching! Atli has chosen full-time van life as a long term housing solution because it helps her spend less money, work a flexible job, travel when she wants, and have her own mobile home in the city. You can follow Atli on Instagram at: https://www.instagram.com/t.rex_van/ She also helped start a monthly van life meet-up in Vancouver (in the summer months) at the Spanish Banks on the first Sunday of the month. To find out more, you can email her at: email@example.com Her Ford Transit camper van conversion is gorgeous and she did most of the work with her Dad. They installed a Suburban furnace, insulation, and roof vents to control the temperature inside the van. There's tons of storage under the platform bed, in the closet, and in the kitchen. One of the best things about Atli's van is that she prioritized keeping it stealthy so that she can park pretty much anywhere without being disturbed. Because no one knows she's in there, she doesn't have any issues with safety as a solo female van dweller. There are no windows in the van, but there is a skylight above her bed. They even installed a bulkhead between the cab and cargo areas, and painted it grey so that it really looks like a work van from the outside. There's no bathroom (toilet or shower) in the van because Atli can use the facilities at work, and at the gym whenever she needs to. Another great thing about living in a van is that Atli can escape the winter for a couple of months each year and she usually tries to make it down to the Rubber Tramp Rendezvous in Quartzsite Arizona. Amazon.com, Inc. is an American international multibillion dollar electronic commerce company with headquarters in Seattle, Washington, United States. It is the world's largest online retailer. Amazon.com started as an online bookstore, but soon diversified, selling DVDs, VHSs, CDs, video and MP3 downloads/streaming, software, video games, electronics, apparel, furniture, food, toys, and jewelry. The company also produces consumer electronics—notably the Amazon Kindle e-book reader and the Kindle Fire tablet computer—and is a major provider of cloud computing services. Jeff Bezos incorporated the company (as Cadabra) in July 1994 and the site went online as Amazon.com in 1995. The company was renamed after the Amazon River, one of the largest rivers in the world, which in turn was named after the Amazons, the legendary nation of female warriors in Greek mythology. Amazon has separate retail websites for United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, India, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Japan, and China, with international shipping to certain other countries for some of its products. In 2011, it had professed an intention to launch its websites in Poland, Netherlands, and Sweden, as well. The company was founded in 1995, spurred by what Bezos called his "regret minimization framework", which described his efforts to fend off any regrets for not participating sooner in the Internet business boom during that time. In 1994, Bezos left his employment as vice-president of D.E. Shaw, a Wall Street firm, and moved to Seattle. He began to work on a business plan for what would eventually become Amazon.com. After reading a report about the future of the Internet which projected annual Web commerce growth at 2,300%, Bezos created a list of 20 products which could be marketed online. He narrowed the list to what he felt were the five most promising products which included: compact discs, computer hardware, computer software, videos, and books. Bezos finally decided that his new business would sell books online, due to the large world-wide demand for literature, the low price points for books, along with the huge number of titles available in print. Amazon was originally founded in Bezos' garage in Bellevue, Washington. The company began as an online bookstore. In the first two months of business, Amazon sold to all 50 states and over 45 countries. Within two months, Amazon's sales were up to $20,000/week. While the largest brick and mortar bookstores and mail order catalogs might offer 200,000 titles, an online bookstore could "carry" several times more, since they had an almost unlimited virtual (not actual) warehouse: those of the actual product makers/suppliers. Bezos wanted a name for his company that began with "A" so that it would appear early in alphabetic order. He began looking through the dictionary and settled on "Amazon" because it was a place that was "exotic and different" just as he planned for his store to be, and he believed it was the biggest river in the world, and he planned to make his store the biggest in the world. Since 2000, Amazon's logotype has been an arrow leading from A to Z, representing that they carry every product from A to Z. Amazon was incorporated in 1994, in the state of Washington. In July 1995, the company began service and sold its first book on Amazon.com: Douglas Hofstadter's Fluid Concepts and Creative Analogies: Computer Models of the Fundamental Mechanisms of Thought. In October 1995, the company announced itself to the public. In 1996, it was reincorporated in Delaware. Amazon issued its initial public offering of stock on May 15, 1997, trading under the NASDAQ stock exchange symbol AMZN, at a price of US$18.00 per share ($1.50 after three stock splits in the late 1990s). Amazon's initial business plan was unusual; it did not expect to make a profit for four to five years. This "slow" growth caused stockholders to complain about the company not reaching profitability fast enough to justify investing in, or to even survive in the long-term. When the dot-com bubble burst at the start of the 21st Century, destroying many e-companies in the process, Amazon survived, and grew on past the bubble burst to become a huge player in online sales. It finally turned its first profit in the fourth quarter of 2001: $5 million (i.e., 1¢ per share), on revenues of more than $1 billion. This profit margin, though extremely modest, proved to skeptics that Bezos' unconventional business model could succeed. In 1999, Time magazine named Bezos the Person of the Year, recognizing the company's success in popularizing online shopping. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon.com Image By Steve Jurvetson (Flickr: Bezos' Iconic Laugh) [CC-BY-2.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0)], via Wikimedia Commons

Thank you to Squarespace for sponsoring this video :) http://squarespace.com/exploringalternatives to get 10% off your first purchase Tyler & Sarah from Life vs Art (http://www.lifevsart.com/) are a couple living the off grid van life full-time in Vancouver, BC, Canada. A couple of years ago they realized they were spending close to $18,000 per year on rent, and with such a mild climate in Vancouver, they realized they could live in a camper van and save that money to live life the way they wanted to. They live in the van with two sweet dogs, who spend weekdays at work with Tyler so they aren't left alone in the van. They're basically living off-grid and rent free in the middle of the city with a propane Dickinson fireplace heater, water jugs they fill up at work, solar power for electricity, and a small portable toilet. Tyler plays drums for the Magik Spells, and Sarah is the drummer for Nixie. The one thing they miss after having downsized their belongings is an electronic drum kit they used to have set up in their living room. Now they store their music instruments at the studio where they have band practice. We really enjoyed meeting Sarah & Tyler this summer and were so inspired by how easily they make full-time van dwelling work for them. Longtime residents of Seattle have seen the city’s cultures morph dramatically—enough that designers Tera Hatfield, Jenny Kempson, and Natalie Ross have drawn us a thematic guidebook. They arrive on Town Hall’s stage to offer us insight from Seattleness, their visually rich cultural atlas of Seattle. They invite us to explore the mercurial nature of place through the lens of one of the fastest growing cities in America, examining topics from UFO sightings to pinball legacies, gray skies to frontier psychology, strong women to strong coffee. Through both experiential and data-driven cartography, Hatfield, Kempson, and Ross provide an extensive cultural map of the moody borough that has brought us airplanes, grunge, gourmet coffee, and e-commerce. With invitations for newcomers to the city and longtime residents alike, these three dynamic designers call us together for a cultural exploration of the green metropolis. Tera Hatfield, a Seattle native, is a design director with a background in visual design and architecture. Her diverse work focuses on the intersection of digital and physical spaces. Jenny Kempson is a multidisciplinary designer with a background in urban design, psychology, and human geography. She continuously explores ways to connect people to places through design. Natalie Ross, a landscape architect with a background in cartography, focuses on the design of urban environments, and works at a Seattle landscape architecture firm. The discussion will be moderated by Sarah Ellwood, Professor and Chair of the Department of Geography at the University of Washington. Presented by Town Hall Seattle.

L.J. has been living in her vintage 1977 GMC Vandura camper van conversion for 3 years while working a 9-5 job in HR. She bought the van for just $500 and enjoys the van life because it allows her to save money and live on a budget, but mostly she loves the freedom of parking wherever she wants, and of being able to travel on weekends. She's recently quit her job and is planning to travel for a year in the van, and overseas to the Philippines and Indonesia. We love how simple L.J.'s van is — no power, no heat, just the basics like a bed, a swivel seat, a cooler, and some books. She makes the lifestyle look easy although she does splurge during a couple of the coldest winter months to sublet an apartment. Thanks for watching! Many leftists hate Jordan Peterson, a Canadian psychologist and professor at the University of Toronto. --------- Subscribe to my YouTube channel: http://youtube.com/johnstossel Like me on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/JohnStossel/ Follow me on Twitter: https://twitter.com/johnstossel --------- They began to hate him after Peterson said he’d disobey a proposed Canadian law that’d force Canadians to call anyone who doesn’t want to be called “he or she” something else, like “ze” or “xe”. When Peterson, said he’d refuse to obey, angry students shouted Peterson down, blowing air horns and screaming to make sure others can’t hear. Peterson defends his position to John Stossel: “I don't care what people want to be called. That's fine, but that doesn't mean I should be compelled by law to call them that.” It’s not just students who slam Peterson. In one TV interview, Peterson stayed calm while the host tried to put words in his mouth. “You are saying that women aren’t intelligent enough to run these top companies ... You don’t believe in equal pay,” Cathy Newman, the reporter at Britain’s Channel 4 News, insisted. “No, I’m not saying that at all,” Peterson responded. He hadn’t said that. What he had said, is that natural differences explain most of the gender wage gap. As an example, Peterson cites studies that find, in wealthy countries that focus most on equality, like Sweden, even fewer women major in science and math. Instead they pick fields that deal with people, like teaching, and men tend more toward technical fields. Peterson says this shows that when men and women have the most freedom to decide what they do, they pick fields that line up with their natural biological interests. That idea infuriates leftists. “It should infuriate them,” Peterson tells Stossel. “Because I'm going right at the heart of the radical leftist doctrine.” That doctrine is social justice, the idea that all groups should have equal outcomes; that there should be just as many female CEOs, scientists, and computer programmers, because men and women are essentially the same. If outcomes differ, it must be sexism. Peterson says that the focus on group equality is a spinoff of Marxism. That after Marxism failed spectacularly in the economic realm, Marxists applied their way of thinking to issues like the difference between men and women. “We've got a hundred million corpses stacked up to demonstrate” the failure of Marxism, says Peterson. And the new Marxism-derived focus on group equality won’t end any better. Peterson calls for the opposite of Marxism – a focus on the individual. He says people should stick with “the principles that govern the West; capitalist principles. The free market principles.” With those principles “we do better than any place has ever done.”

On International Women’s Day, several women’s organisations came together in New Delhi — raising slogans, banners and a call for solidarity. They took up the issues affecting women in the present times, from the right to work to the right to love, from the continuing threats to the security of women to the threats from the Right-wing forces. The march also raised demand for 33 % reservation. -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "The Kanwars : Infamous Shiv Bhakts of North India, Bharat Ek Mauj, Season 2 E1 " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01w0jBWPu3Q -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

Jonathan Sposato is Chairman of both Geekwire and of PicMonkey. He has the distinct honor of being the only person to sell two companies to Google. A successful tech investor for two decades, in 2015 he made national headlines by committing to only investing in companies founded by women. Women are half of our species and over half of the earth’s population. There is no product or service that women don’t buy. And yet, today only 24 women CEOs lead America’s Fortune 500 companies. Jonathan's goal is to provide managers, employees, CEOs, and board members a guide to build a sustainable robust female workforce at all levels.

The positive health and economic outcomes of paid parental leave are undeniable, yet America remains one of four countries in the world without national paid parental leave laws. Drawing on science and her personal experience as a working mother, Anna demonstrates why it is imperative the United States pass a paid family leave law, and explores how policy and technology can work together to improve the lives of working families. Anna Steffeney is a passionate entrepreneur focused on improving the experience and lives for working families. After the birth of her two children—one born in Europe, the second born in the United States—the glaring difference in parental leave policies prompted Anna to launch LeaveLogic, a Seattle-based technology company that delivers a parental leave management platform to Fortune 1000 companies. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
