Hopa Hey in Chamat Gader - Sefi Rivlin giving an alligator an eye exam

01:58
Hopa Hey was the continuation of the band "Kmo Tsoani" (Like a Gypsy) with Yigal Bashan, Uzi Chitman (z"l) and myself. After over 400 shows and countless TV appearances and at chiidrens festivals we were offered our own TV show. Back in the 1980's this was even more special as there was still only one TV channel in the entire country. The show was kind of like "The Monkees". Each show was shot on location in a different part of the country. Sefi Rivlin and/or Tsipi Shavit played our arch enemy who would try to foil our plans on the way to a performance for local children. Their constant demand was to be able to perform with us and of course, we always made it to the show on time and didn't let the children down. In this clip Sefi Rivlin as the lovesick and lonely doctor is tricked into giving an eye exam to an alligator that i am sitting on top of the alligator is real the trainer was holding onto a strap around its mouth

Hopa Hey in Sharey Tzedek - I was a female nurse

Their constant demand was to be able to perform with us and of course, we always made it to the show on time and didn't let the children down. This episode was filmed during hanuka in the childrens ward of Sha'rey Tsedek Hospital in Jerusalem It might have been one of the more hilarious episodes and i particularly enjoyed being made up to be a female nurse and then let loose on the hallways of the hospital I discovered that day the difference between "breast men" and "leg men" the leg men knew i was a fake but the "breast men" i was able to play tricks on This was also one of the episodes that Sefi Rivlin and Tsipi Shavit teamed up and were joined by the extrelely talented Gani Tamir Yigal (a well known hypochondriac in real life) is a patient in the hospital. Doctor Zonda is in love with nurse sima (gani tamir). Uzi decides that we'll give Yigal a doctors visit that he will NEVER FORGET this scene winds up with all of us in bed with yigal by the time the real doctor arrives

Yoel Ziv - יואל זיו

03:58
Sculptor Yoel Ziv lives in Kibbutz Kalia, near the Qumran caves on the Dead Sea shore. Here he creates, far from the city hustle and modern trends, inspirational works, with a surprising ingenuity. Ziv was gifted with a unique visual imagination. He makes rarely seen sculptures taking you on a journey to the past. It is an exciting journey to the dusty desert, the biblical times, and the times of Jesus and his students travelling the land. An extinct, yet inspiring world. Yoel's house in the Kibbutz is surrounded by sculptures and green. He started sculpting back in 1975, while working in a foundry at UCLA, California. There, he learned the varied techniques of dealing with different types of metals. He carried on with his work in a foundry at Bet Nekofa, and has been working for himself for the past decade. "My main sources of inspiration are the Dead Sea and the Desert. I got lucky, living in the most amazing place in the world- Kibbutz Kalia, by the Dead Sea, where history reflects off every rock, every mountain and every ripple of the water. I relate naturally, mystically to ancient history figures, from the pre-historic period and to the glorious times of the Zealotry and the Essenes. My work combines elements of the primitive stone sculpting together with modern lines." Yoel Ziv creates figurative sculptures of man and animal, traditional figures inspired by primordial times. His work is created out of acknowledgement and respect to realistic sculpting tradition. Nevertheless, it carries a subjective sympathetic attitude towards the sculpted figures. The elements in his work are consistent and structured with a professional and impressive style, which does not respond to trends. His bronze sculptures demonstrate different human momentary situations. His set of women sculptures reflects "soft femininity" along with inner force and strength. His couples set also deals with the complex dynamics of inter-gender relations.

02:45
Once again the Taverners reaching the highest pinnacles of Israeli showbiz This time its the classic and cult tv show zehu zeh (זהו זה) We were invited to a special purim episode that was aired every year on purim for several years It was a very special and funny episode and we were honored to be a part of it especially great was to have the great RUBY HARRIS with us Ruby was one of the first musicians i met in israel in 1981 when i moved there after college and he played violin mandolin guitar He was one of the founding members of the DIASPORA YESHIVA BAND but filled in with the taverners during the years that i was busy with Uzi Hitman and Yigal Bashan in "Like a Gypsy" (כמו צועני) and "Hopa Hey" (הופה הי) Despite the fact that I was extremely busy during those years (roughly 1985-1990) i always relished the chances i had to do a gig with the Taverners or sit in with them when Ruby was there fiddling and adding his own schtick to the band Here is one time we were able to collaborate

Hopa Hey in Chamat Gader - I am nearly eaten by alligators

As the series went on I got some more interesting parts to play and things to do I can remember lots of funny stories and anecdotes from each place we played at Here we were in the Israeli resort and natural hot springs and alligator farms of Chamat Gader (חמת גדר) I filmed this opening sequence to the episode that I am fishing, oblivious to all of the nasty creatures lurking nearby (i was never really in any danger and no alligators were harmed in the filming of this episode)

00:37
This was the official episode #1 after the Hour LOng Pilot filmed in eilat (that, later on was edited down to the normal 40 minute length of the show "without commercials" (no really on israeli tv back then there were no commercials) It was in the development town of Or Akiva where we introduced a local band and were with the extremely funny Dubi Gal and the band HaLehakot Chozrot (הלהקות חוזרות) ncluding datz vedatza and avi dor who eventually was in the "second version" of Hopa Hey and several other well known artists in this scene we discover that Tzipi shavit was tied up and Lilush kidnapped Lilush was our mascot, a goat It was the same goat over our entire touring show (she lived at the drivers house) but on tv it was ALWAYS A DIFFERENT GOAT - every single show
