We continue with our series on side effects of hormone replacement. First we coved estrogen replacement, then testosterone replacement, and now progesterone replacement. In all cases, not all women receiving hormone replacement will experience the side effects, and if they do, they are all treatable. This video is about the dark side of synthetic progestins that more women should be made aware of. Most doctors still insist that synthetic progestins are the same as natural progesterone that our bodies make or that we can get from bioidentical progesterone cream. Many don't know, many don't want to see the truth. Unfortunately, progestins cause lots of side effects and are outright dangerous. That's why I feel I must tell you the entire story, so that you can make informed decisions when it comes to birth control, hormonal balancing, or hormonal replacement therapy. How to prevent weight gain on birth control: Is your birth control pill making you gain weight? We can help, watch this video to learn how to prevent weight gain on birth control in easy simple tutorial steps. It is said that weight gain is a common side effect of taking birth control pills. This has been backed up by research, as many women who take oral contraceptives were said to gain extra weight, especially in their hips, thighs, and breasts. However, the weight gain caused by birth control pills is mostly caused by fluid retention, and the amount of weight gain is usually deemed insignificant for most women. This minimal weight gain also often goes away within two to three months. Medroxyprogesterone acetate is a synthetic progesterone which is used in contraception, endometriosis, contraception, hormone replacement therapy and various other indications. The vomiting and the weight loss are less common side effects which happens with only the higher doses of Medroxyprogesterone that too which peak following the administration of medication. The most common side effect is weight gain rather than weight loss. So when vomiting and weight loss happens with Medroxyprogesterone, better to rule out other conditions which can cause these side effects. Before coming to conclusion, it could be because of Medroxyprogesterone acetate.

Learn all about the shot, or Depo-Provera, and why you might want to consider this birth control option. Get more information at http://ppmns.org or by calling 1.800.230.PLAN. Transcript: The shot is an injection that you get in the arm. It's also called "Depo" or "Depo-Provera." It's a birth control method that lasts for three months. The shot works by preventing the ovary from releasing an egg. If the egg isn't released, it's impossible for the sperm and the egg to join together. The shot also helps by thickening the mucus in the cervix, so that the sperm can't get through. The shot is a good choice for patients who want something that's long-lasting, something that's highly effective and safe. It's really convenient for some patients because you come into the office, you get the injection, and you're set for three whole months—you don't have to think about it, you don't have to carry anything around, you don't have to take a pill every day. It's also very private for patients for that very reason—nobody knows that you have it. Many women get the shot and don't have any side effects or problems at all. One of the most common side effects of the shot is irregular bleeding. It's not unusual for women to spot irregularly for the first 6 to 12 months when they're on the shot. After approximately a year, about 50 percent of the women that get the shot actually stop having their periods altogether (which actually a lot of women like). Because the shot is long-lasting, it can take a while to get pregnant after having your last shot, so that's definitely something you'll want to consider. If you're worried about being able to afford the shot, you should see if you're eligible for a program at Planned Parenthood which will give you low- to no-cost birth control and other reproductive health care. To see if you're eligible, visit ppmns.org.

I spent the last four months of my pregnancy researching which long-term birth control method would be best for my syncopal episodes (I pass out frequently). I never intended to stay on Depo more than 3 years because it affects bone density (more of a concern for older women). Since I've been experiencing severe short-term memory loss recently, I needed a birth control method that would be less frequent. But....I never expected this. xoxo, victoria vaden - - - Turn on my channel notifications & don't forget to subscribe! ♥ I'm ALWAYS responding to comments, so please feel free to like and comment! Traci is the co-author of The Dangers of Depo: The World’s Most Dangerous Birth Control. A new book about the injectable contraceptive first released in July 2017. Together with Dr. Poppy Daniels, the collaboration resulted in an easy to read, an incredibly informative book about the extremely problematic contraceptive, known as the “depo shot.” Traci is also the Founder of depotruth.ca (@depotruth) an online resource for women to learn about the injectable contraceptive. Traci took Depo in 2010 and is still struggling with the effects to this day which is exactly why she’s so passionate about raising awareness and helping those negatively affected know that they are not alone. In today’s interview, we’re talking about the side effects of Depo. Whether you’re considering Depo or currently taking it you’ll want to know what to watch for, and we cover the most common side effects in today’s episode. Watch more How to Pick a Birth Control Method videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/510814-Birth-Control-Shot-Side-Effects-Birth-Control The birth control shot is a highly effective form of birth control. It is progesterone only and is usually administered by a doctor or a nurse practitioner. The injection is usually given into your arm or in your buttock once every 12 weeks. While this is an excellent and highly effective form of birth control, it does have some side effects. Some of the most common side effects include breakthrough bleeding, headaches, and over a relatively short period of time, you may stop getting your periods altogether. These side effects are completely normal. Now, the headaches and the breakthrough bleeding will usually get better with time. However, if you stop getting your periods with this birth control option, it's possible that your periods may not return until after you stop using this form of contraception. Please don't be worried. While patients are concerned when they don't see their periods, so long as they're using the birth control option correctly, this is perfectly safe. One of the concerns about using the birth control injection, or the birth control shot, is the return to fertility. In other words, if you use this birth control option and you decide that you want to get pregnant, it can take up to a year for your periods to return and for you to start ovulating in order for you to get pregnant. So if you're thinking in the next year or two that you would like to consider pregnancy, you probably should consider a different, more easily reversible form of birth control. Another concern about this form of birth control is the risk associated with bone loss. Now, the risk of bone loss is relatively low over the first year. But if you continue this form of birth control for two or more years, you may want to consider changing your options in order to reduce this risk from occurring. Again, I highly recommend that you talk to your nurse practitioner or your physician about whether this is a good birth control option for you. Despite the side effects, this may be the birth control option for you. And while you're concerned about the side effect profile, it's probably better to use this than to use nothing at all.

This video is about depo provera shot experience and after math. Keep in mind not everyone has the same reactions to medication, this is just my personal experience. I believe, now more than ever, you should research any prescription or medication you might take. There are side effects to everything and most of them are quite harmful to your body. I REGRET not looking up the side effects of this shot before taking it. There are MANY women who had the same reaction. This video is not meant to scare anyone, but i feel its important you know all the possibilities before taking the steps to start this medication. Please think of all your options. Even though i may joke or laugh in this video, this has been very hard on me... mentally, emotionally, and physically. I have had many expenses to pay for all my emergency room visits, supplements, doctors visits, face washes, and everything else because of all these bad reactions. So please take EVERYTHING into consideration. This is a very serious topic, and it has effected my life greatly. I am still struggling to this day to fight the symptoms of this medication. Thanks soo much for watcing. p.s. sorry for looking so horrible. this video was not meant for any purpose but to discuss my experience with the depo shot. i didnt want anything else to be a distraction, and honestly wanted my face to breathe especially since I am now dealing with acne.

You mentioned that you and your husband are trying to have a baby, and you were using the Depo shot for contraception, but got your last injection a few months ago, and you're wondering what types of side effects you can expect while coming off of this medication. While on the Depo shot, it's normal to have irregular bleeding patterns, and the longer you're on it, actually, the more likely it is that you won't have periods. And this is likely to continue for the next few months until your hormone levels get back to a fertile state. On average, it takes women about 10 months to conceive, because it can take your body several months before it gets back to this fertile state where your hormone levels are such that you're ovulating. So if you don't have periods for a few months, then that's normal. And you might start to experience a little bit of irregular bleeding, and then hopefully soon you'll start to notice established, regular periods. And then once that happens, you can calculate your fertile window, and time intercourse with ovulation, and increase your chances of conceiving and having a baby. Good luck with everything, and if you have any other questions for me in the future, feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/IntermountainMoms, and recommend us to your friends and family too.

Scores of Kenyan women could be exposing themselves to health hazards unknowingly by using Norplant, a popular contraceptive option. The drug was banned in the United States and United Kingdom way back after it caused adverse effects in women using it. However a spot check by citizen TV shows its still on offer in several major hospitals in Kenya as family planning alternative drug despite its numerous serious side effects that include menstrual disturbances, ovarian cysts among others.

What is Depo-Provera? Depo-Provera, also known as the birth control shot, is an injectable form of hormonal contraception. It is a long-acting progestin-only hormone method of birth control. The birth control shot contains Medroxyprogesterone acetate, which is similar to the natural Progesterone produced by a woman's ovaries during the second half of their menstrual cycle. Depo Provera when received on a regular basis, every 12 weeks, is highly effective at preventing pregnancy. How does it work? Depo-Provera works in a few different ways to prevent pregnancy. It inhibits the secretion of hormones that stimulate the ovaries, which prevents ovulation, it also thickens the cervical mucus to prevent the entrance of sperm. This injection also thins the uterine lining to prevent a fertilized egg from implanting in the uterus. How effective is it? Depo-Provera is actually one of the most effective methods of hormonal birth control available. When the injections are received every 12 weeks on a routine basis, it is over 99% effective. The birth control shot does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases. Women are urged to use condoms consistently to decrease their risk of STD's. How often do you need to repeat the injection? After your initial injection of Depo-Provera, you will be given a date 12 weeks later to return to the office for another injection. It will be repeated every 12 weeks until no longer desired by the patient. If necessary you may receive the shot up to 14 days early or up 7 days late. However, if you have not received your injection within 13 weeks after your last injection, you must immediately begin an alternative method of birth control. Pregnancy testing will be required before you can receive another injection. What are the benefits of Depo-Provera? The birth control shot provides safe, long acting, highly effective contraception without requiring a woman to think about her birth control method on a daily basis or at the time of intercourse. It does not contain any estrogen, another type of hormone, which means the shot can be a good choice for women who are breastfeeding or cannot take estrogen. The birth control shot often decreases bleeding and cramping with periods. It may also decrease your risk of endometrial & ovarian cancer and has shown no interactions with antibiotics & most other medications. Depo-Provera is fully reversible! What are the side effects & risks? The side effects are usually not serious, but it is important to realize that once Depo-Provera is injected, it cannot be reversed or neutralized. You will have to live with any side effects until the medicine wears off in 3 months. The most common side affects associated with the birth control shot: Irregular bleeding, weight gain, headache, dizziness, depression, nausea, bloating, fatigue and abdominal discomfort. It's important to remember that the birth control shot does not decrease a woman's fertility and on average fertility returns in about 10-12 months from your last injection. It is recommended that injections be discontinued one year before a pregnancy is desired. If pregnancy occurs within 1-2 months after a Depo-Provera injection, the newborn may be at an increased risk of low birth weight and in turn, an increased risk of death. Use of Depo-Provera has been associated with a decrease in the amount of calcium in your bones with can increase your risk of Osteoporosis. Talk to your doctor today to determine if Depo-Provera is right for you. What Medications Are Involved for MTFs? Various kinds of medication can be used to change the levels of sex hormones in your body. Some work on the part of your brain that stimulates sex hormone production, some work on your testicles (which produce testosterone), and some work directly on the cells in your body that respond to sex hormones. Some of these medications are also hormones, and some are another type of chemical. Typically MTF hormone therapy involves estrogen, medication to block testosterone, or a combination of the two. Sometimes a progestagen is added to the mix. Estradiol https://tblockers.com/estrogen/ Aldactone https://tblockers.com/spironolactone/ 1. Estrogen Estrogen is the main hormone responsible for promoting “female” physical traits. It works directly on tissues in your body (e.g., makes breasts develop) and also indirectly suppresses your testosterone. Estrogen can be taken in different ways: • pill (oral application) • skin patch or gel (transdermal application) • injection (intramuscular application) For reasons that aren’t understood, estrogen seems to cause blood clots less when it is taken through the skin rather than by pills or injections. For this reason, transdermal estrogen is usually recommended to anyone who is over age 40, a smoker, or otherwise at risk for blood clots. Transdermal estrogen also tends not to elevate triglycerides (a type of fat in the blood) as much as estrogen taken by pill/injection, so it is recommended if you are at risk of heart disease or stroke. There are different chemical formulations of estrogen. Usually 17-betaestradiol (patch = Estradot®, Estraderm®, or Oesclim®; pill form = Estrace®) is used because it has the least health risks. Conjugated estrogens (e.g., Premarin®) and ethinyl estradiol are not recommended because studies of non-trans women have shown them to increase the risk of some types of health problems. 3 2. Anti-androgens (also known as androgen blockers or androgen antagonists) Anti-androgen drugs work by blocking the effect of testosterone. This reduces “male” physical traits and has a mildly “feminizing” effect. For example, they will help slow “male”-pattern baldness, reduce growth of facial hair, and stop spontaneous/morning erections. There are different types of anti-androgens. The ones most typically prescribed to MTFs are spironolactone (Aldactone®) and finasteride (Proscar®). Cyproterone (Androcur®) can be used, but risks include depression and liver enzyme elevation so spironolactone is generally preferred. Anti-androgen drugs are often prescribed in addition to estrogen, as the two have effects that complement each other. Taking anti-androgens reduces the amount of estrogen you need to get the same effects, which minimizes the health risks associated with high doses of estrogen. Antiandrogen drugs can be prescribed alone for MTFs who want to reduce “masculine” characteristics for a more androgynous appearance, as it’s less “feminizing” than estrogen. 3. Progestagens There are mixed opinions about using progestagens (e.g., Prometrium®, Provera®) for MTFs. Most trans health programs around the world don’t use progestagens due to the lack of clear evidence that they are important in “feminization,” and the known side effects (which include depression, weight gain, and changes to blood fats). Other doctors use progestagens: • to supplement estrogen if estrogen isn’t working even at the maximum dose, or • as a replacement for estrogen if there are concerns about estrogen’s side effects or health risks, or • because they believe that progestagens help with nipple development As with estrogen and anti-androgens, balancing possible risks and benefits of progestagens is a decision between you and your health care provider https://apps.carleton.edu/campus/gsc/assets/hormones_MTF.pdf Estro Surge Estrogen Booster http://transformationslabs.com/male-transitioning-to-female/estrogen-booster/?aff=9 Estro Surge Triple Pack http://transformationslabs.com/male-transitioning-to-female/estrogen-booster-3-pack/?aff=9 Testo Rid Testosterone Blocker http://transformationslabs.com/male-transitioning-to-female/testosterone-blocker/?aff=9 Testo Rid Triple Pack http://transformationslabs.com/male-transitioning-to-female/testosterone-blocker-3-pack/?aff=9 Dangerous Curves http://transformationslabs.com/male-transitioning-to-female/dangerous-curves/?aff=9 3 Pack MTF System http://transformationslabs.com/male-transitioning-to-female/3-pack-mtf-system/?aff=9 Estrogen Booster and Test Blocker Pack http://transformationslabs.com/male-transitioning-to-female/estro-booster-test-blocker-twin-pack/?aff=9 V-351 http://transformationslabs.com/male-transitioning-to-female/v-351/?aff=9 Estradiol https://tblockers.com/estrogen/ Aldactone https://tblockers.com/spironolactone/
