First Day of Federal Prison
First Day of Federal Prison https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLS1vcpGVHQ Justin Paperny discusses the {First Day of Federal Prison}. #firstdayinfederalprison GeoffMousseau: Hi, this is Geoff Mousseau with White Collar Vice. We’re here today with Justin Paperny. The reason we’re here today is because this is a significant day for Justin. It was eight years ago, today, that Justin began his prison sentence. So, we’re going to talk today about that first day, and what it’s like and what can you expect. Now, Justin, tell us did you self-surrender? {First Day of Federal Prison} Justin Paperny: I did, I self-surrendered. My mom and brother drove me up I 5 into Bakersfield. I lived in Los Angeles and I self-surrendered to TAFT federal prison camp the 20th of April in 2008. I was due to get there. My letter said get there at 2 o’clock; I got there several hours earlier around 10 or 11 o’clock and my journey begin, or continue I should say. {First Day of Federal Prison} Geoff Mousseau: So, did you have a last meal on your way up? Justin Paperny: I did. I surrendered fat, bloated and miserable and angry, and we stopped at this, Carl's Jr. is sort of my last meal. And I have this bacon double cheeseburger, and I was sick and coffee and I just didn’t feel great. So, yes. {First Day of Federal Prison} Geoff Mousseau:: Well, what did you do to prepare? I didn't do much, as I've written about I was in denial a bit, and really unwilling to embrace the reality of the situation of it and really unwilling to embrace the reality of the situation that I was going to jail. And, I had eight weeks to surrender and prior to that I was just so fixated on how I felt my life was coming apart; I shouldn't have been prosecuted; I should have been handled civilly not criminally. So, I purposely didn't prepare knowing that would make matters worse. It would have been just too much work to sit down at a computer, to read, to prepare, to study, whatever. So, I went in blind someone in my family made one call to the prison to find out what I could surrender with, said that I could come with shoes and a watch, so of course I went out and I bought the most expensive running watch and running shoes thinking that I could surrender with them, but very little preparations. {First Day of Federal Prison} Geoff Mousseau: Did you surrender directly to the camp itself? Justin Paperny: Good question. I surrendered to the low security prison which is adjacent to the camp. So, to go to TAFT, you go this long dusty road and then you drive into the, you see this big sign, you know TAFT correctional complex and you go down this dirt road and you see the barbed wire, the razor coil, and a huge tract, and I was thinking like wow, this is where I’m actually going to live. And I didn’t even know, because I was so unprepared that eventually I’d be moved over to the satellite camp, but I surrendered and checked in and processed at the low security prison. {First Day of Federal Prison} www.FederalPrisonAdvice.com for a free copy of Lessons From Prison. jp@whitecollaradvice.com - 818-424-2220 Visit www.whitecollaradvice.com to access our federal prison blogs Visit:jp@whitecollaradvice.com - 818-424-2220 Visit https://www.whitecollaradvice.com to access our federal prison blogs https://www.youtube.com/user/FederalPrisonAdvice https://twitter.com/JustinPaperny https://www.facebook.com/whitecollaradvice/ Phone : - +1 818-424-2220 23679 Calabasas Rd, Suite 905 Calabasas, CA 91302 California {First Day of Federal Prison}

Teach girls bravery, not perfection | Reshma Saujani
We're raising our girls to be perfect, and we're raising our boys to be brave, says Reshma Saujani, the founder of Girls Who Code. Saujani has taken up the charge to socialize young girls to take risks and learn to program — two skills they need to move society forward. To truly innovate, we cannot leave behind half of our population, she says. "I need each of you to tell every young woman you know to be comfortable with imperfection." Hurricane Michael 2018 full coverage and updates
Hurricane Michael has killed at least one person as it continues to move inland over the Southeast. The storm made landfall on the Florida Panhandle Wednesday afternoon as one of the most powerful storms to ever hit the U.S. The intense Category 4 hurricane was packing maximum sustained winds of 155 mph when it crashed ashore near Mexico Beach, a lightly populated tourist town about midway along the Panhandle. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) described Michael as "potentially catastrophic." Debris is strewn across miles of Florida's coastline: Roofs and awnings peeled back from buildings, pieces of homes scattered amid snapped trees and downed power lines, chunks of beaches washed away. Follow our live blog: https://www.cbsnews.com/live-news/hurricane-michael-path-florida-storm-surge-weather-forecast-track-today-2018-live-updates-coverage/ Forecasters mark landfall as the place and time when the center of the eye strikes land. Minutes earlier, Michael's eyewall came ashore between Panama City and St. Vincent Island, and the hurricane center warned everyone inside the relative calm of the eye not to venture outside. Hurricane-force winds extended outward up to 45 miles from the center. Those winds were tearing some buildings apart in Panama City Beach. One beachfront structure under construction could be seen collapsing, and metal roofing material flew sideways across parking lots amid sheets of rain. -- Subscribe to the CBS News Channel HERE: http://youtube.com/cbsnews Watch CBSN live HERE: http://cbsn.ws/1PlLpZ7 Follow CBS News on Instagram HERE: https://www.instagram.com/cbsnews/ Like CBS News on Facebook HERE: http://facebook.com/cbsnews Follow CBS News on Twitter HERE: http://twitter.com/cbsnews Get the latest news and best in original reporting from CBS News delivered to your inbox. The Source Behind a Mystery Sound Heard Around the World
Strange sounds are being heard around the world, and no one seems to know where they're coming from. In Sweden, the odd noise sounded like a trumpet. A similar sound was heard in Michigan. In British Columbia, Canada, Dr. Glen MacPherson says he heard a strange humming sound in his home. At first, he thought it was an appliance. “I cut power to entire house and the sound got louder,” he told Inside Edition. He later discovered he was not alone. “This is a worldwide phenomenon," he said.

Full Episode - Rhino Hunting, Minimum Wage Hike, War on Women, Gay-Free Sochi
How do we strike a balance between animal welfare and human needs? Is hunting an endangered black rhino for the ostensible purpose of saving others OK? Meanwhile, in Great Britain, conservatives are poised to raise the minimum wage. So why are conservatives in the US so squarely against a hike in the federal minimum wage? Also, was Kentucky Senator Rand Paul correct when he stated that the War on Women is over - and women won? Or is he purposely lying, misrepresenting statistics and confusing the issue to distract from the GOP's assault on women's reproductive rights? And finally, is it funny, sad or outrageous that the mayor of Sochi declared that there are no gay people in his city? How quickly will progress on LGBT issues come to the rest of the world? All this and yet another patented #NoFilter rant from the host on this week's episode of The Point with Ana Kasparian. His distinct and lively Haida Manga style engages perfectly with this inspirational story that encourages every individual to act on behalf of the worlds limited and precious resources. http://mny.ca/ Athlii Gwaii: The Line at Lyell (46:30 min.) 2003 Part of the Ravens and Eagles: Haida Art series Jeff Bear/Marianne Jones, Ravens and Eagles Productions In the fall of 1985, a small but resolute troupe of Haida elders journeyed by helicopter to Athlii Gwaii (Lyell Island) to join their young counterparts in a stand against clearcutting. Industrial invasion in the remote archipelago had gone too far. Ancient cedar giants and rare spruce trees—lifeblood of Haida art and culture—had been leveled indiscriminately for too long. Buoyed by their courageous Haida elders, protesters united in peaceful resistance. A total of 72 people were arrested, but their tactics garnered global attention and won change: in 1987, the government established the Gwaii Haanas Park Reserve/Haida Heritage Site. http://www.movingimages.ca/catalogue/Art/re_athliigwaii.html

How the US government spies on people who protest -- including you | Jennifer Granick
What's stopping the American government from recording your phone calls, reading your emails and monitoring your location? Very little, says surveillance and cybersecurity counsel Jennifer Granick. The government collects all kinds of information about you easily, cheaply and without a warrant -- and if you've ever participated in a protest or attended a gun show, you're likely a person of interest. Learn more about your rights, your risks and how to protect yourself in the golden age of surveillance. Without proper rendering support, you may see question marks, boxes, or other symbols. Dubai (/duːˈbaɪ/ doo-BY; Arabic: دبي‎‎ Dubayy, Gulf pronunciation: [dʊˈbɑj]) is the largest and most populous city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).[4] It is located on the southeast coast of the Persian Gulf and is the capital of the Emirate of Dubai, one of the seven emirates that make up the country. Abu Dhabi and Dubai are the only two emirates to have veto power over critical matters of national importance in the country's Federal Supreme Council.[5][6] The city of Dubai is located on the emirate's northern coastline and heads the Dubai-Sharjah-Ajman metropolitan area. Dubai will host World Expo 2020.[7] Dubai emerged as a global city and business hub of the Middle East.[8] It is also a major transport hub for passengers and cargo. By the 1960s, Dubai's economy was based on revenues from trade and, to a smaller extent, oil exploration concessions, but oil was not discovered until 1966. Oil revenue first started to flow in 1969.[9] Dubai's oil revenue helped accelerate the early development of the city, but its reserves are limited and production levels are low: today, less than 5% of the emirate's revenue comes from oil.[10] The Emirate's Western-style model of business drives its economy with the main revenues now coming from tourism, aviation, real estate, and financial services.[11][12][13] Dubai was recently named the best destination for Muslim travellers by Salam Standard.[14] Dubai has recently attracted world attention through many innovative large construction projects and sports events. The city has become iconic for its skyscrapers and high-rise buildings, in particular the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. Dubai has been criticised for human rights violations concerning the city's largely South Asian and Filipino workforce.[15] Dubai's property market experienced a major deterioration in 2008–09 following the financial crisis of 2007–08,[16] but the emirate's economy has made a return to growth, with a projected 2015 budget surplus.[17] As of 2012, Dubai was the 22nd most expensive city in the world and the most expensive city in the Middle East.[18][19] In 2014, Dubai's hotel rooms were rated as the second most expensive in the world, after Geneva.[20] Dubai was rated as one of the best places to live in the Middle East by U.S. global consulting firm Mercer.

Kristi Jacobson and Mariana Chilton on How Hunger Hurts Everyone
Here in the richest country on earth, 50 million of us -- one in six Americans -- go hungry. More than one in five are children. And yet Congress can't pass a Farm Bill because our representatives continue to fight over how many billions to slash from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, better known as food stamps. The debate is filled with tired clichés about freeloaders undeserving of government help, living large at the expense of honest, hardworking taxpayers. But a new documentary, A Place at the Table, paints a truer picture of America's poor. "The cost of food insecurity, obesity and malnutrition is way larger than it is to feed kids nutritious food," Kristi Jacobson, one of the film's directors and producers, tells Bill. She and Mariana Chilton, director of the Center for Hunger-Free Communities, explain to Bill how hunger hits hard at people from every walk of life. "There's no opportunity for people who are low-income to really engage in our democracy," says Chilton. "I think they're actively shut out."

Investing in Women's Rights to Promote National Security
Skip ahead to beginning of panel discussion at 3:08 Advancing rights and opportunities for women and girls around the world is both the right and the smart thing to do. Women’s rights are now widely recognized as fundamental human rights. In addition, women are critical to solving virtually every global challenge, so investing in them is also a strategic imperative to advance critical US foreign policy interests, including economic prosperity, stability and security. This panel will highlight both the moral and strategic cases, examine what it means in practice to put women at the center of international diplomacy and development, and consider the current state of affairs in the global quest for gender equality. Commentators on the panel will include: Jennifer Klein, Visiting Fellow, Center for Global Legal Challenges, Yale University Rose McDermott, Professor of International Relations, Brown University Susan Moffitt, Director of the Taubman Center for American Politics and Policy, Brown University

Government urged to crackdown on Mexican migrants
Mexican migrants caught trying to cross into the United States say they had paid traffickers as much as $3,000 for safe passage. It is the third time that a large group of migrants has been intercepted by Mexican authorities this year. Last May more than 500 migrants from Central America, Nepal, India, Japan and China were found in dire health conditions inside a trailer tractor on their way to the US. The National Commission for Human Rights say 20,000 migrants are abducted every year and hundreds are believed to have died in the process. US immigration experts say the only way to stop this crisis is if the policies in the migrants' home countries could be recast to prevent these people from leaving in search for a better life elsewhere. White House Press Briefing with Sarah Sanders | September 10, 2018
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders briefs the press today and then takes questions. Potential briefing topics: - Anonymous op-ed: Last week, the New York Times published an op-ed written by a Trump administration official who claims to be part of the "resistance" to President Trump and his policies from inside the White House. Its publication has kept D.C. guessing as to who the author may be; -Woodward book: Journalist Bob Woodward's scathing account of the Trump White House "Fear" publishes Tuesday. Mr. Trump has called the book "a joke" and claims that it is mostly fiction. Earlier Monday, he tweeted that he might write his own book to counter the forthcoming publication; - NFL response: As football season begins, players' protests are starting up again. While the players are protesting for social justice causes by kneeling during the pre-game national anthem, Mr. Trump considers the move unpatriotic and offensive. Some players knelt or raised their fists Sunday, and Mr. Trump continued to voice his disapproval of the act on Twitter.
