How to Solve a Sudoku Game

02:57
Watch more Puzzles & Brain Teasers videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/202656-How-to-Solve-a-Sudoku-Game Sudoku is a one-rule puzzle game that can be either satisfyingly simple or deceptively difficult. Step 1: Understand the pattern of a sudoku puzzle. Cells where an individual number goes are called squares; squares are then sectioned off in groups of nine to create boxes. A sudoku puzzle has a total of 81 squares, and nine boxes. They create a three-box-by-three-box grid. Tip Many sudoku puzzles have dark lines separating the nine three-square-by-three-square boxes for easy identification. Step 2: To solve a sudoku puzzle, each row of nine squares must contain the numbers 1 through 9. Each column must also contain the numbers 1 through 9, and each box must contain the numbers 1 through 9. No row, column, or box may repeat any number. Step 3: Start with an easy puzzle, and work your way up to successively more difficult puzzles. Many squares will already be filled in, no matter the puzzle level. Based on those filled in squares, using logic and the process of elimination, begin deducing which numbers fit in the empty squares. Tip Any puzzle that has one single solution will have at least 17 squares already filled in. Step 4: Use cross-hatching, the process of figuring out where a number fits by eliminating possibilities based on numbers in the other squares in the same row, column, and box. For example, if the top-middle box contains no number 8, and the other boxes along the top row of the sudoku board contain 8s in the first and second rows, process of elimination dictates the 8 in the upper-middle box must be in the third row. Step 5: Once you've solved one square by cross-hatching, use the technique to fill in as many squares in that single box as you can. Step 6: Once you have exhausted one box, either by filling it in completely or running out of discoverable solutions, continue to the next box, then the next box, until you've gone through all nine boxes. Step 7: Typically, by doing simple cross-hatching you will fill in several squares. Once you've gone through all the boxes, return to the box you started with and repeat the process, as it's likely there are now more available solutions. Step 8: After cross-hatching, try the counting method. Look at a single square, and count 1 through 9 through all possibilities, marking off ones that are immediately disqualified because it already appears either in the same box, the same column, or in the same row as the empty square. Step 9: For most easy puzzles, these simple techniques should be sufficient to help you complete the puzzle. As you practice, you'll be able to develop your own strategies and think ahead, which will help you progress on to more difficult puzzles. Did You Know? Sudoku, despite its Japanese name, was invented in the U.S. in 1979 by a 74-year-old retired architect.

Raising the Digital Trajectory of Healthcare

01:32:36
Table of Contents Q&A 1:14:29 Should healthcare be more digitized? Absolutely. But if we go about it the wrong way... or the naïve way... we will take two steps forward and three steps back. Join Health Catalyst's President of Technology, Dale Sanders, for a 90-minute webinar in which he will describe the right way to go about the technical digitization of healthcare so that it increases the sense of humanity during the journey. The topics Dale covers include: • The human, empathetic components of healthcare’s digitization strategy • The AI-enabled healthcare encounter in the near future • Why the current digital approach to patient engagement will never be effective • The dramatic near-term potential of bio-integrated sensors • Role of the “Digitician” and patient data profiles • The technology and architecture of a modern digital platform • The role of AI vs. the role of traditional data analysis in healthcare • Reasons that home grown digital platforms will not scale, economically Most of the data that’s generated in healthcare is about administrative overhead of healthcare, not about the current state of patients’ well-being. On average, healthcare collects data about patients three times per year from which providers are expected to optimize diagnoses, treatments, predict health risks and cultivate long-term care plans. Where’s the data about patients’ health from the other 362 days per year? McKinsey ranks industries based on their Digital Quotient (DQ), which is derived from a cross product of three areas: Data Assets x Data Skills x Data Utilization. Healthcare ranks lower than all industries except mining. It’s time for healthcare to raise its Digital Quotient, however, it’s a delicate balance. The current “data-driven” strategy in healthcare is a train wreck, sucking the life out of clinicians’ sense of mastery, autonomy, and purpose. Healthcare’s digital strategy has largely ignored the digitization of patients’ state of health, but that’s changing, and the change will be revolutionary. Driven by bio-integrated sensors and affordable genomics, in the next five years, many patients will possess more data and AI-driven insights about their diagnosis and treatment options than healthcare systems, turning the existing dialogue with care providers on its head. It’s going to happen. Let’s make it happen the right way.

Having a passion for teaching, he established his own financial awareness group in 2003 where he began to publish regular newsletters about various financial related issues that were of interest to people of all income levels. Having had the opportunity to continue his career with several of the nation's largest and most prestigious financial planning firms, he believed there was an industry void relative to providing advice and services to a broader spectrum of individuals. He saw a need to provide personal attention and elevated client service to all individuals of all income levels and not solely the high net-worth clientele. This prompted him to establish his own financial planning firm, Optimum Capital Management, LLC. Ryan Mack can be regularly viewed on television networks such as GMTV, CNBC, CNN, Thomson Reuters, and BET discussing economic/social issues that impact American citizens. Gabrielle Ford's Bio Gabrielle Ford never dreamed that a long-eared coonhound could change her life. But that's just what happened when she cared for her ailing pet Izzy and found the voice to help others in need as a nationally-known motivational speaker. Today Gabe's incredible story has drawn media attention from The Today Show, Cosmopolitan Magazine and Animal Planet, among others. Her 2009 autobiography Still Dancing shares even more of the inspirational details from her life as a way to encourage others that anything is possible. As a child, Gabrielle loved dance and dreamed of becoming a prima ballerina. That dream was shattered by a rare genetic neuromuscular disease, Friedreich's Ataxia, that would eventually place her in a wheelchair. Gabe not only struggled with the devastation of the illness, but also endured constant and cruel bullying from classmates. The constant torment took her on a path of depression and isolation. That all changed when Izzy, a long-eared coonhound pup, entered Gabe's life. Izzy became Gabe's best friend and constant companion. When this special friend mysteriously developed a condition mirroring Gabe's, Gabe re-entered the world to get Izzy the best treatment available. Speaking out for the voiceless Izzy gave her the courage to speak out for another voiceless group: the thousands of children bullied in American schools every day. Through countless personal trials, Gabe found her way back to the stage as an outspoken advocate against school bullying. In addition to her countless school visits, she has also been a keynote speaker at various conferences and conventions. Her talks focus on what it takes for individuals to build and empower their own lives and communities. She says, “It is very easy for many of us to focus on the negative conditions and circumstances of our lives, but what if we change our perspectives by simply replacing the narrow glass lens of the mind with a new one, allowing us to see our lives and the world from a more positive view? Would it still seem impossible to live life beautifully?” Dana speaks before small and large groups and is known to teach and deeply inspire her audience. She has created national and international movements and an on-line anthology. Authors@Google: Matt Werner

46:01
Matt Werner spoke at Google in Mountain View on August 6, 2012 about his book Oakland in Popular Memory: Interviews with 12 cutting-edge musicians from Oakland and beyond. He is introduced by Brit Bjurstrom. ABOUT THE BOOK: The image of Oakland, California has been tainted in the mainstream media with salacious news reports focusing on street violence, shootings, gangs, and riots. These reports—along with assumptions and stereotypes—feed the fabricated image that outsiders have of the city. In Oakland in Popular Memory: Interviews with 12 cutting-edge musicians from Oakland and beyond (Thought Publishing / May 2012 / $15.00), Oakland native and former host of the award-winning radio show on Fresh Air: The Alternative, Matt Werner introduces a different narrative by presenting a collection of his best interviews with leading artists from Oakland and artists who've influenced musicians from Oakland. In the spirit of Studs Terkel, Werner conducted long-form interviews from 2008-2012, which cover the 2008 election of President Obama, the shooting of Oscar Grant, and the Occupy Oakland protests. Werner spoke with artists at length, discussing topics like race relations in Oakland in the post-Oscar Grant era, postmodern literary theory, and the changing landscape of the music industry during the digital revolution. Through interviews with artists like, Chinaka Hodge, Dahlak Brathwaite, Dave Smallen, George Watsky, Ise Lyfe, K.Flay, Kid Beyond, MC Lars, Rafael Casal, Saul Williams, Talib Kweli, and Victor Vazquez, Oakland is seen as an engine of cultural innovation, as a city bustling with lively avant-garde art and music scenes, spanning from indie rock to spoken word to hip-hop. Oakland in Popular Memory captures the artists putting a new "there" in Oakland. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Matt Werner was born in Oakland, California and grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. He received his BA in English from UC Berkeley, graduating Phi Beta Kappa with Highest Honors. Werner interned and volunteered at McSweeney's Publishing for five years where he worked on the oral narrative collections Surviving Justice and Out of Exile, among other titles. While earning his Master's in Literature and Modernity from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, he DJed on Fresh Air: The Alternative, University of Edinburgh Student radio, winning two radio awards for his artist interview show. Since March 2010, Werner has worked as a technical writer at Google. His writing for Google has been translated into 40 languages and quoted in dozens of publications, including The Wall Street Journal. Werner also volunteers with the Talks at Google program, hosting leading authors, musicians, and filmmakers at Google. Outside of Google, Werner writes on music, culture, and local history for a variety of Oakland blogs. He also writes and edits books for Thought Publishing. 2015 College of DuPage Outstanding Graduates - Julia Andersen and Leticia Lozano

06:39
Julia Andersen has earned an Associate in Arts Degree and plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in English with a focus on publishing studies. Lozano has graduated with her Associate in Science Degree and will transfer to study either biology or neuroscience. When considering a college, Andersen knew that cost was a big factor. “Paying for four years of school was terrifying for me,” she said. “I was also concerned about making friends. It can be intimidating as an 18-year-old in a big school.” After being named a Presidential Scholar – an honor that includes a full-tuition scholarship and enrollment in COD’s Honors program and the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society – Andersen could then focus on her college experience. The smaller class sizes, she said, were more conducive to reaching out and forging friendships. And she could explore her career options based upon her passions of writing, reading and filmmaking. One of Andersen’s greatest experiences has been as an associate editor for the Prairie Light Review, the College’s literary arts magazine. Her work also has been selected for ESSAI, an annual publication featuring the best academic writing by COD students. “My dream job is either working at a literary magazine or writing books,” she said. “I’d like to write young adult literature, and I’m interested in world-building – the idea of creating a fictional universe – something Libba Bray and Sarah Rees Brennan, two authors I love, do really well.” Outside of the classroom, Andersen volunteers at the Glen Ellyn Children’s Resource Center, where she has worked one-on-one as a tutor with the same student for two years as well as supervising other students during their free time. As she prepares to transfer to Illinois State University, Andersen is thankful for everything that College of DuPage provided for her. “I received a quality education,” she said. “In fact, I never had a bad instructor, even in earth science, which is not my best subject. I expected to just get through it, but my instructor was so excited about his students’ success that he made it more rewarding to take. He gave it an extra dimension. “I’ve also made some great friends, and I’m excited to see where their lives take them in the future.” Lozano is a big believer in following your passion. “I’ve always been aware of three passions – I love the idea of learning, growing and achieving; I love the idea of having a positive impact on the world; and I love seeing one thing through 10 different sets of eyes.” But instead of going to college like others her age, Lozano adopted her little sister and in the process had a monthly mortgage to pay. She spent more than 20 years in the workforce, with her favorite job as a recruiter of contracted pharmacists for hospitals and other health care organizations. When her own daughter was in high school, Lozano dedicated herself to becoming a full-time student, the first person in her family to do so. “I needed to show my daughter that she could do anything,” she said. “In the beginning, I was nervous and scared but also extremely excited because I never lost my love for learning. I discovered my love of science through my Anatomy and Physiology courses. Then I was encouraged to take Microbiology with Associate Professor Kathleen Finan, and I am so glad I did because I performed extremely well in that one, too. In fact, I loved it.” Lozano loved it so much that she now plans to study either biomedical engineering or neuroscience. She also was selected by Finan to exclusively lead a guided study group for microbiology students, and this summer she will work as a research assistant in a biomedical lab at the Illinois Institute of Technology. “I love research and I love the human aspect of science,” she said. “Our body can be seen in so many ways, and there’s so much to see beyond what we can with our eyes. It feeds into all my passions. “Whatever direction I go in, I will make it count. My daughter is ecstatic for me. I’m proud of my 4.0 GPA and my membership in the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, and I hope I’ve been a positive role model for her. She says I’m ready to take on the world.”

Beta64 - Yooka-Laylee / Project Ukulele

Thanks to the entire Playtonic team, Grant Kirkhope, Gavin Price, and many others for helping making this video a reality! This video on Yooka-Laylee has actually been two years in the making, believe it or not. It all started when I interviewed Playtonic back in 2015. Since that point, I knew that I was going to be making a video on the development of Yooka-Laylee, but I head no idea it was going to be so long! So many changes were made throughout the game’s development, and it’s all covered in this video. Yep, Yooka-Laylee’s first ever title screen, the original HUB world, and even JonTron’s removed voice, it’s all here in one small, hour and 20 minute long package. Enjoy! Check out up-to-date unused stuff in Yooka-Laylee: https://tcrf.net/Yooka-Laylee Here’s the interview I did with Playtonic back in 2015: https://youtu.be/vKUwOWtqxww Sources: EGX Rezzed 2015 Panel: https://youtu.be/8ulJeGQ0Krk Kickstarter Trailer: https://youtu.be/XodNzNWAAz4 E3 2016 Trailer: https://youtu.be/e1gxLvbX3Ow Gamescom 2016 Trailer: https://youtu.be/oqmF8IgxtJ0 Gamescom 2016 Gameplay 1: https://youtu.be/rlgshs3_Fvk Gamescom 2016 Gameplay 2: https://youtu.be/1F_bG-uJMns Character Trailer: https://youtu.be/Y1xVEEOG0ZI PS Access PS4 Gameplay: https://youtu.be/rStKYUD_3GQ Playtonic YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCueKkTDzpAUAof825AsGZtQ Early Title Screen Proto: https://youtu.be/rr0OIJ3ipAE https://twitter.com/PlaytonicGames/status/247660697499095040 https://twitter.com/PlaytonicGames/status/245291453394321408 https://twitter.com/PlaytonicGames/status/250650369175216128 https://twitter.com/PlaytonicGames/status/251030961205161985 https://twitter.com/PlaytonicGames/status/250724585086001154 http://web.archive.org/web/20150111212011/https://twitter.com/MingyJongo http://web.archive.org/web/20150210060649/https://twitter.com/mingyjongo http://web.archive.org/web/20150209080647/https://twitter.com/MingyJongo http://web.archive.org/web/20130818205749/https://twitter.com/MingyJongo http://web.archive.org/web/20150222045132/http://www.playtonicgames.com/ http://www.polygon.com/gaming/2012/9/26/3414162/banjo-tooie-devs-want-to-make-a-spiritual-successor http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-09-26-ex-rare-staff-rally-up-twitter-support-for-banjo-tooie-spiritual-successor http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/23h2s1/i_am_grant_kirkhope_composer_of_banjo_and_dk_64/cgwxvwl http://www.gatheryourparty.com/2014/04/22/banjo-successor-mingy-jongo-is-dead/ http://web.archive.org/web/20150225153601/http://www.playtonicgames.com/ http://www.playtonicgames.com/they-are-the-music-men/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yooka-Laylee http://www.hardcoregamer.com/2015/01/01/banjo-kazooie-spiritual-successor-mingy-jongo-rebooting/126929/ http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/09/27/ex-rare-devs-planning-banjo-tooie-spiritual-successor http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/02/10/former-rare-developers-working-on-banjo-kazooie-spiritual-successor https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/playtonic/yooka-laylee-a-3d-platformer-rare-vival/updates http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2014-05-19-job-losses-at-rare-confirmed-by-microsoft http://www.playtonicgames.com/introducing-yooka-laylee/ http://www.playtonicgames.com/project-ukulele-your-questions-answered/ http://www.playtonicgames.com/seeing-the-wood-for-the-trees/ http://www.playtonicgames.com/the-man-behind-yooka-and-laylee/ http://www.playtonicgames.com/the-voice/ http://www.playtonicgames.com/grabbing-the-ghoulies/ http://www.playtonicgames.com/playtonic-labour-update-october-2015/ http://www.playtonicgames.com/merry-christmas/ http://www.playtonicgames.com/raising-the-curtain/ http://yooka-laylee.wikia.com/wiki/Nimble http://www.playtonicgames.com/yooka-laylee-trailer-release-update/ http://www.playtonicgames.com/open-the-toybox/ http://www.playtonicgames.com/thinking-inside-box/ http://www.playtonicgames.com/yooka-laylee-reptile-rolls-towards-release/ https://tcrf.net/Proto:Yooka-Laylee https://tcrf.net/Yooka-Laylee http://www.playtonicgames.com/games/yooka-laylee/ http://yooka-laylee.wikia.com/wiki/Grand_Tomes http://playstationinsider.com/2016/12/psx-2016-yooka-laylee-is-making-3d-platformers-relevant-again/

Euphonium Solo - David Werden Playing Variations by Jerry Owen

06:56
Euphonium player David Werden performing the "Variations" by American composer Jerry Owen. The piece was written for jazz euphoniumist Rich Matteson. Werden was looking for a piece to show off the jazzy side of the euphonium and chose this as a piece that would satisfy that goal and also appeal to audiences. He performed it on tour with The United States Coast Guard Band and also at music conferences such as the College Band Directors National Association and the New York State School Music Association. At the time Dave ran Whaling Music Publishers and obtained permission from Owen to publish Variations so it would be available to euphonium players. (This piece and all of Werden's own arrangements are now published by Cimarron Music Press.) Rich Matteson was a popular studio low-brass player, and has recorded on tuba, valve trombone, and euphonium. He played with the Dukes of Dixieland and has appeared with icons such as Clark Terry, Al Hirt, and Dizzy Gillespie. In combination with tuba legend Harvey Phillips, he co-founded the Matteson-Phillips Jazz Consort. This group featured three euphoniums, three tubas, and rhythm. Rich played along with jazz euphoniumists Buddy Baker and Ashley Alexander. About David Werden A graduate of The University of Iowa, Mr. Werden was the euphonium soloist with The United States Coast Guard Band for more than 20 years. He has performed throughout the United States, as well as in Canada, England, Japan, and the former Soviet Union. Through FM and TV broadcasts, his solos have been heard in dozens of countries around the world. He is a recitalist and clinician, and has performed at local, national, and international symposiums. He was a member of The USCG Band Euphonium/Tuba Quartet, the Atlantic Tuba Quartet, and the Classic Brass Band. He previously taught at the University of Connecticut and the University of Minnesota, and he is listed in Marquis' Who's Who in American Education. He operates the site http://www.dwerden.com, a major online community for euphonium players. His efforts to expand the role and recognition of the euphonium led the British magazine Sounding Brass in conjunction with the American publication Euphonia to name him "Euphonium Player of the Year" in 1980. He is the first American awarded this honor. In 1981 he was elected to the post of Euphonium Coordinator for the International Tuba-Euphonium Association (formerly called Tubists Universal Brotherhood Association: T.U.B.A). In 1987 he was appointed to the Honorary Board of Advisers of ITEA. His many solo performances and his efforts to expand the role of the euphonium in music earned him the prestigious Coast Guard Commendation Medal. He has also been awarded two Coast Guard Achievement Medals, the Coast Guard Special Operations ribbon, two Coast Guard Unit Commendations, and three Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendations. In 1993 he was inducted into the Pi Kappa Lambda honors society. He has published articles in Euphonia magazine, The Instrumentalist magazine and the T.U.B.A. Journal. He is the author of The Blaikley Compensating System, Scoring for Euphonium, co-author with Denis Winter of the Euphonium Music Guide, and a co-author of the Brass Player's Cookbook. He compiled and edited a series of papers by Arthur Lehman into the book The Brass Musician. He has also published over four dozen arrangements for a variety of solo instruments and ensembles. Since moving to Minnesota he has performed with Symphonia (America's Premier Large Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble), the Minnesota Orchestra, the Sheldon Theater Brass Band, was a special guest artist at the International Euphonium Institute, and has been heard on live national broadcasts of A Prairie Home Companion.

Her dedication even earned her the 2011 Communications & Leadership Award from Toastmasters International as well as the Community Hero Award in 2008 from the Fenton Regional Chamber of Commerce.
