This practice was historically observed in northwest regions of India, with most famous Jauhars in recorded history, occurring during wars between Hindu Rajput kingdoms in Rajasthan, and the Muslim armies. Jauhar by Hindu kingdoms has been documented by Islamic historians of the Delhi Sultanate, and the Mughal Empire. Among the oft cited example of Jauhar has been the mass suicide committed in 1303 CE by the women of Chittorgarh fort in Rajasthan, faced with invading army of Khilji dynasty of the Delhi Sultanate. The Jauhar phenomenon was also observed in other parts of India, such as in the Kampili kingdom of northern Karnataka in 1327 CE. The origins of the word Jauhar are unknown. Practice:: The term Jauhar sometimes connotes both self-immolation and saka ritual. The moment the ladies and the children of the Rajputana would know, that the outcome of the Battle is against the Rajputs, and there is no chance of a win, the women of the fort would commit mass self-immolation. As soon as the ladies would know that defeat is inescapable, than they would wear their wedding dress, hold the hands of their children, and jump into massive fire, preferring death over dishonor by the invaders. This practice was mainly carried out in the night with the Vedic chants. Simultaneously or thereafter, the men would ritually march to the battlefield expecting certain death, which in the regional tradition is called Saka. Occurence:: Jauhar of Jaisalmer: Alauddin Khilji Jaisalmer, witnessed the scene of Jauhar thrice, first in late 13th century, in which 24,000 women committed Jauhar, second in the mid 14th century, and the last in the early 16th century. The last time men did not have enough time to build the pyre and hence slit the throats of women, and hence, it is considered half Jauhar. First Jauhar of Chittor: Alauddin Khilji The first jauhar of Chittor gar occurred during a siege of Chittorgarh fort, in 13 03 CE. This Jauhar became a subject of legendary Rajasthani poems, with Rani Padmini (Padmavati) the main character, wherein she and other Rajput women commit Jauhar to avoid being captured by Alauddin Khilji of Delhi Sultanate. And women who committed Jauhar left hand prints on the clay wall. Second Jauhar of Chittor: Bahadur Shah Rana Sanga died in 1528 CE after the Battle of Khanwa. Shortly afterwards, Mewar and Chittor came under the regency of his widow, Rani Karnavati. The kingdom was besieged by Bahadur Shah of Gujarat. Rani committed Jauhar with other women on 8 March 1535, while the Rajput army rallied out to meet the besieging Muslim army and committed Saka. Third Jauhar of Chittor: Akbar The ruler of then was Rana Uday Singh II, father of Maharana Pratap. The armies of Mughal Emperor Akbar besieged the Rajput fort of Chittor, in September 1567. After his army conquered Chittorgarh in Rajasthan, Hindu women, fearing sexual enslavement, committed Jauhar in spring of 1568 CE, and the next morning, thousands of Rajput men walked the Saka ritual. A Compelling Social History of Women in America: The Famous and the Obscure (2003)

Pocahontas (born Matoaka, known as Amonute, and later known as Rebecca Rolfe, c. 1595 – March 1617) was a Virginia Indian notable for her association with the colonial settlement at Jamestown, Virginia. About the book: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0061227226/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0061227226&linkCode=as2&tag=tra0c7-20&linkId=e0aa02c15050386800a2d12509168a32 Pocahontas was the daughter of Powhatan, the paramount chief of a network of tributary tribal nations in the Tsenacommacah, encompassing the Tidewater region of Virginia. In a well-known historical anecdote, she is said to have saved the life of an Indian captive, Englishman John Smith, in 1607 by placing her head upon his own when her father raised his war club to execute him. Some historians have suggested that this story, as told by Smith, is untrue. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pocahontas Eleanor Dare (née White; c.1568 – after August 18, 1587) of Westminster, London, England, was a member of the Roanoke Colony and the daughter of John White, the colony's governor. While little is known about her life, more is known about her than most of the sixteen other women who left England in 1587 as part of the Roanoke expedition. She married Ananias Dare, a London tiler and bricklayer. It is known that she gave birth to Virginia Dare, the first child of English parents born in North America, on August 18, 1587, shortly after their arrival, and that, along with everyone else in the "Lost Colony", she disappeared while her father went to get supplies back in England. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eleanor_Dare Elizabeth Eckford (born October 4, 1941) is one of the Little Rock Nine, a group of African-American students who, in 1957, were the first black students ever to attend classes at Little Rock Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. The integration came as a result of Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka. Elizabeth's public ordeal was captured by press photographers on the morning of September 4, 1957, after she was prevented from entering the school by the Arkansas National Guard. A dramatic snapshot by Johnny Jenkins (UPI) showed the young girl being followed and threatened by an angry white mob; this and other photos of the day's startling events were circulated around the US and the world by the print press. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_Eckford Margaret Madeline Chase Smith (December 14, 1897 – May 29, 1995)[1] was an American politician. A member of the Republican Party, she served as a U.S Representative (1940-1949) and a U.S. Senator (1949-1973) from Maine.[2] She was the first woman to serve in both houses of the United States Congress, and the first woman to represent Maine in either.[3] A moderate Republican, she is perhaps best remembered for her 1950 speech, "Declaration of Conscience," in which she criticized the tactics of McCarthyism. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_Chase_Smith

Indian Women Athletes Create History in CW Games 2010

01:23
Women athletes held India's head high with their unusual knack of winning gold medals at the Commonwealth Games. Up next, we introduce you to some of the winners. For more news and videos visit ☛ http://ntdtv.org Follow us on Twitter ☛ http://twitter.com/NTDTelevision Add us on Facebook ☛ http://on.fb.me/s5KV2C Indian women have done well in the Commonwealth Games held in New Delhi—particularly in events like shooting, wrestling, tennis and badminton, providing tough competition for their male counterparts. Indian women runners won the gold medal in the 4X400 meter relay on Tuesday, making it an unforgettable golden day. One of the four relay athletes shared her experience. [Sini Jose, Relay Athlete]: "We were little tensed as the Nigerian team was participating with us. Tension was there but home ground support was also there which made us perform well." Another athlete said the performance of all the women athletes is an example to other Indian women, of how to make their mark in the world. [Ashwini Chidananda, Relay Athlete]: "Yes, it is true that we are living in women's era, even the president of our country is a woman. We would like to encourage more girls to come out of their houses and think about their bright future and about the progress of the country. We want everyone (women) to think about her." India bagged a total of 101 medals at the Games with 38 gold, 27 silver and 36 bronze medals, which would have been impossible without the contribution of women athletes.

தமிழர் பலர் அறிந்திராத வீர தமிழிச்சி | A Women History which forgoten by Tamil History

04:47
This video about A Women History which forgotten by Tamil History. all about a women who fight for the freedom from the British in India Velu Nachiyar was the princess of Ramanathapuram and the only child of Raja Chellamuthu Sethupathy and Rani Sakandhimuthal of the Ramnad kingdom. Nachiyar was trained in war match weapons usage, martial arts like Valari, Silambam (fighting using stick), horse riding and archery. She was a scholar in many languages and she had proficiency with languages like French, English and Urdu.[5] She married the king of Sivagangai, with whom she had a daughter. When her husband, Muthuvaduganathaperiya Udaiyathevar, was killed by British soldiers and the son of the Nawab of Arcot, she was drawn into battle. She escaped with her daughter and lived under the protection of Palayakaarar Kopaala Naayakkar at Virupachi near Dindigul for eight years. During this period, she formed an army and sought an alliance with Gopala Nayaker and Hyder Ali with the aim of attacking the British, whom she did successfully fight in 1780. When Velu Nachiyar found the place where the British stored their ammunition, she arranged a suicide attack: a faithful follower, Kuyili, doused herself in oil, set herself alight and walked into the storehouse. Velu Nachiyar formed a woman's army named "udaiyaal" in honour of her adopted daughter, Udaiyaal, who died detonating a British arsenal. Nachiyar was one of the few rulers who regained her kingdom, and ruled it for ten more years.1790, The throne was inherited by her daughter Vellacci. for more information https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velu_Nachiyar Related : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iciexSvVaoY

Best catch in the history of women's cricket by Jemimah Rodrigues

02:16
Rumeli Dhar was into the attack in the 17th over of South Africa's innings. Shorter ball around the off stump was slogged high by the batswoman. It went high and high until it found Rodrigues at deep-midwicket. She followed the ball, adjusted her position and waited patiently for the ball to arrive. Then she leapt just in time to pull off the stunner. Indian womens hockey creating history in world champion ship story by Rajnish BaBa Mehta Women's Junior Hockey Team Creates History ndian women create history by winning country's first ever bronze medal in junior hockey World Cup, edge out England 3-2 on penalties. Indian hockey has finally something to cheer about. And it's not the men but the girls who have made their sticks talk and created history by winning India's first ever bronze medal in the Junior Women Hockey World Cup. India edged out England 3-2 on penalties in Germany on Sunday. Reigning champions Netherlands beat Argentina 4-2, also on penalties, to clinch the cup. Eighteen-year-old Rani proved her worth as India's vice-captain, scoring India's only goal in regulation time -- which ended 1-1 -- and then finding the net twice in the shootouts. Navneet Kaur's strike got India a 3-2 lead and when England's Anna Toman missed the next shot, it secured the memorable victory.
