Angry Racists Flip Out After 'Cheddar Man' Revealed To Be Black

12:11
Help us cover the political revolution: http://www.patreon.com/TYTNation "The first modern Britons, who lived about 10,000 years ago, had “dark to black” skin, a groundbreaking DNA analysis of Britain’s oldest complete skeleton has revealed. The fossil, known as Cheddar Man, was unearthed more than a century ago in Gough’s Cave in Somerset. Intense speculation has built up around Cheddar Man’s origins and appearance because he lived shortly after the first settlers crossed from continental Europe to Britain at the end of the last ice age. People of white British ancestry alive today are descendants of this population. It was initially assumed that Cheddar Man had pale skin and fair hair, but his DNA paints a different picture, strongly suggesting he had blue eyes, a very dark brown to black complexion and dark curly hair." https://www.theguardian.com/science/2018/feb/07/first-modern-britons-dark-black-skin-cheddar-man-dna-analysis-reveals?CMP=twt_a-science_b-gdnscience Shop at Amazon & support TYT Nation! http://ow.ly/LAKHU Like Our Facebook Page! http://www.Facebook.com/TYTNation Subscribe to our Network Partner: The Young Turks. http://www.youtube.com/theyoungturks http://www.tytnetwork.com

UK: QUEEN MOTHER CELEBRATES HER 99TH BIRTHDAY [V]

01:23
(4 Aug 1999) English/Nat Britain's Queen Mother celebrated her 99th birthday in front of crowds of cheering well wishers in London. About five-thousand people gathered outside her official residence, Clarence House, on Wednesday to see the royal whose life spans the century. Many had waited since early in the morning. VOICE-OVER: 00:02 Britain's Queen Mother, more fondly referred to as the 'Queen Mum,' emerged from her home at London's Clarence House on Wednesday for birthday wishes from the public. Thousands of well-wishers came to wish the Queen Mother well in marking her 99th birthday, making her as old as the century itself. 00:18 To mark the royal occasion, the band of the Welsh Guards marched past playing the birthday song for the royal family's reigning matriarch. The crowd, many of whom had waited for hours at the gates, gave warm cheers to honour one of the Windsor family's most popular royals. The Queen Mother stood firmly, declining the offer to sit down for the ceremony and aided only by her silver-handled cane. 00:41 She was presented with scores of birthday cards and bouquets from the crowd. Nearly five-thousand admirers came, both Britons and curious tourists always eager to catch a rare glimpse of a member of the British royal family. 00:56 Then the Queen Mother made a sprightly walk over to the waiting crowd to chat and shake hands. The birthday was truly a national event, with B-B-C television playing the national anthem on their news bulletins as a form of tribute. The Queen Mother was joined by other royals to mark her birthday with a family lunch, which included her daughter Queen Elizabeth the Second, Prince Charles and his two sons, Princes William and Harry. 01:22 vision ends You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/metadata/youtube/b8ad195b21fa9fb27a69293b43a4d853 Find out more about AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/HowWeWork

Celebrating 4/20 with London's Weed Fanatics

Watch the first episode of SMOKEABLES: How to Make a Gravity Bong - http://bit.ly/28XSWBi All across the world, governments are rethinking their attitudes towards the criminalisation of cannabis. Yet in Britain, fusty politicians terrified by that video of Jon Snow losing his mind on super-skunk are refusing to free the weed, uncurb the herb or liberate the oregano dream pipe. We went along to Hyde Park to join London's most ardent weed advocates for the annual 4/20 celebrations, which this year doubled as a protest rally for those who want cannabis to be legalised. We caught up with Big Narstie, watched the police make an array of arrests, talked to some of the activist-stoners and found out why you should always smoke through an Eric Cartman bong. Well, the stuff you've heard about them may not be true. The Vikings weren't just pagan raiders striking terror into the hearts of defenseless European Christendom. They were some of the greatest travelers of their time, and they weren't always traveling to steal. In a lot of cases, they were traveling to trade. John will teach you about Viking trade goods, Norse Mythology, and yes, there will be blood, guts, and dragons. OK? 'The British Chinese'

06:52
- "Are you a British or Chinese?" - "Erm..." I interviewed students at The Glasgow Chinese School, based in Stow College in Glasgow's Chinatown. I was interested in exploring how the children perceived themselves and dealt with issues of identity and belonging. Many of the children are from racially mixed marriages, while others are second or third generation Chinese raised in Glasgow, dealing with a duality of a distinct Chinese and Scottish cultural backgrounds. I developed this exploration through a short film called 'The British Chinese' that addresses these issues.

Is home ownership out of reach for young Britons? | The Economist

08:19
Britain's housing crisis. Rocketing prices and limited construction are putting home ownership out of reach for many young Britons. As the election nears, few politicians have a realistic solution Click here to subscribe to The Economist on YouTube: http://econ.st/2F8I0jB Thirty-three-year-old Lucia Hull lives in Ealing, West London, with her husband and two children. She also lives with her parents in the same house she grew up in - which she left 15 years ago to make a life for herself. But like a growing number of young people she soon realized that setting up a home wouldn't be as easy as she thought. Lucia and her husband Connor used to live in Edinburgh but last year decided to move to London to be near Lucia's parents because childcare costs for their two young daughters were becoming unmanageable. Despite working full-time and earning average wages for West London, they would have to spend over half their joint income on rent if they were to live close enough to Lucia's parents to take advantage of their help. If the Hull's wanted to buy, the mortgage from both their salaries wouldn't even get them a two-bedroom flat. The Hulls are not alone in their predicament. Britain is facing a housing crisis. It's not a new problem. The years since 2010 have marked the lowest five-year period of construction since the end of the Second World War. It's estimated at least 250,000 houses need to be built every year in England to keep up with population and household growth. In 2014, less than half that number were built. That's down to a combination of NIMBYism, outdated planning regulations, and a lack of political will. More housing is urgently needed to bring down costs and give Britain's growing population somewhere to live. Despite this, housing and how to build more of it remains a political hot potato. None of Britain's main parties seems to have a realistic plan for fixing it. The Conservatives have said that if they're reelected they'll build 200,000 low priced starter homes by 2020 - these will be available to 20% discount to first-time buyers under 40 and the prices will be capped at £450,000 in London and £250,000 elsewhere. Labour's promise is even more ambitious. They've said they'll build 200,000 homes per year by 2020. This worries people like Tom Papworth who think that neither party's plans will deliver the number of houses Britain so desperately needs. One solution to Britain's housing crisis would be to build more houses in places like Iver. Iver is just 22 minutes from London by train. The government's new Crossrail project will soon shorten that journey further, making Iver the ideal commuter town. Currently only 11,000 people live in Iver and further building is largely prohibited because so much of the area falls within the Greenbelt. The Greenbelt was a policy instituted shortly after the Second World War to protect large swathes of land around English major cities from further development. The idea was to safeguard agricultural land so the country could feed itself, and to encourage the regeneration of inner-cities following extensive bombing and the spread of slum housing. The Greenbelt is an area and an issue that many Britons feel strongly about. If the classifications were redrawn, new housing could be created with no damage to the beautiful and valuable natural areas within the Greenbelt. If the solution is so straightforward, what's the problem? As so often it comes down to politics. The issue is politically toxic and few politicians are willing to touch it - particularly during an election. Lucia and her young family must now choose between opportunities in the city or affordable housing elsewhere. For now, the Hull's have little choice but to stay with her parents - but is not a permanent solution and as the children grow they'll need more space. Feeling trapped, the couple have considered moving to Northern Ireland where Connors family lives because the prices are more manageable. Harry and Meghan’s £1bn wedding gift to Britain: Party weekend to celebrate their marriage

30:32
Harry and Meghan’s £1bn wedding gift to Britain: Party weekend to celebrate their marriage (and the FA Cup Final) ‘will be massive boost to the economy’ Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will marry on May 19 at Windsor Castle's famous St George's chapel, it was revealed today. The couple have chosen to ignore royal tradition and walk down the aisle on a Saturday so more people in the UK and across the globe can watch on TV or even come to Berkshire on their wedding day. A royal aide told MailOnline: 'They remain hugely grateful for the messages of support they have received from people all over the world'. But football fans are bemused because they will wed on FA Cup Final day even though Harry's best man Prince William is FA President and usually presents its famous trophy to the winners at Wembley. It could also lead to a TV coverage clash of the first major royal wedding since 2011 and the biggest football match of the year in Britain. The date also means Harry and his fiancee will not to marry on either the early May or late May bank holidays as wished for by some working Britons. And May 19 ensures that the wedding will not overshadow the birth of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's third child in April and allow Kate the time to recover. Royal sources insisted last night the events would not overlap, which suggests the wedding could take place in the morning, with the Cup Final in the late afternoon. A royal aide said the couple opted for a weekend wedding because they wanted as many members of the public to be involved as possible, whether by watching it on television or attending in person at Windsor.

Kate Middleton's Royal Baby Will Be Born On Queen Elizabeth’s Birthday

02:53
Latest Hollywood Gossip, News & Celeb Pics Kate Middleton due date: Could royal baby be born on Queen’s birthday KATE Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, is expected to give birth to her third child with husband Prince William sometime in April. Could the royal baby be born on the Queen’s birthday? Here are the latest odds. Kate and William will welcome a third child to their family next month, following the births of Prince George in 2013 and Princess Charlotte in 2015. The royal couple announced they were expecting baby number three on September 4 last year but it was not clear how long she had been pregnant. However, Kate has again been suffering from an extreme form of morning sickness hyperemesis gravidarum as she did with her first two pregnancies, meaning they were announced before the 12-week mark. So it is likely the announcement was made earlier than would have been planned - with Kensington Palace announcing Kate was pregnant with George and Charlotte before the 12-week mark. However, Kensington Palace have been able to keep the lid on when the baby is due. Earlier this month, a royal source claimed the Duchess of Cambridge is due to have her third child on the feast day of St George on Monday, April 23. The source said: “There's no certainty with due dates of course but the Duchess is working off a date around St George’s Day and it would be a lovely patriotic coincidence if he or she were born then. “The one thing that is certain though, if it’s a boy he won’t be called George! Prince George has already taken that one. “Or if she’s very late, as she was with George’s birth, she could even make it a very special wedding anniversary present to William, as they celebrate seven years of marriage on the 29th April.” But if Kate is a few days early, the royal birth could fall on the Queen’s actual birthday. Queen Elizabeth II actually has two birthdays, celebrating her official one on June 9 this year. But the actual date of her birth is April 21 - meaning she could be about to share a birthday with her newest grandchild. The official royal family website reads: “Official celebrations to mark Sovereigns' birthday have often been held on a day other than the actual birthday, particularly when the actual birthday has not been in the summer. “King Edward VII, for example, was born on 9 November, but his official birthday was marked throughout his reign in May or June when there was a greater likelihood of good weather for the Birthday Parade, also known as Trooping the Colour. “The Queen usually spends her actual birthday privately, but the occasion is marked publicly by gun salutes in central London at midday: a 41 gun salute in Hyde Park, a 21 gun salute in Windsor Great Park and a 62 gun salute at the Tower of London.” This year, the Queen will celebrate her 91st birthday. Given she is still attending public engagements, it is likely the Duchess’ due date must be towards the end of April. As The Duchess of Cambridge enters the final few weeks of her third pregnancy, the bookies have opened up betting on when the latest addition will enter the world, and the Queen's birthday is the early favourite at 10/1. 12/1 is the price on offer the baby is born a couple of days later on St George's Day - April 23rd.

Sir Winston Churchill - Funeral (I Vow To Thee) - The Nation's Farewell

05:29
I Vow To Thee / Thaxted / Jupiter arranged by Geoff Knorr and performed by the Prague FILMharmonic under the conduction of Andy Brick. Spread the word of true greatness. Forward to a friend. Day of Sorrow Sir Winston Churchill 1874 - 1965 I Vow To Thee My Country - Gustav Holst Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill, KG, OM, CH, TD, PC, DL, FRS (30 November 1874 -- 24 January 1965) was a British politician and statesman known for his leadership of the United Kingdom during the Second World War. He is widely regarded as one of the great wartime leaders. He served as Prime Minister twice (1940--45 and 1951--55). A noted statesman and orator, Churchill was also an officer in the British Army, a historian, a writer, and an artist. To date, he is the only British prime minister to have received the Nobel Prize in Literature, and he was the first person to be made an honorary citizen of the United States.[1] Churchill was born into the aristocratic family of the Dukes of Marlborough. His father, Lord Randolph Churchill, was a charismatic politician who served as Chancellor of the Exchequer; his mother, Jenny Jerome, an American socialite. As a young army officer, he saw action in British India, the Sudan and the Second Boer War. He gained fame as a war correspondent and through books he wrote about his campaigns. At the forefront of politics for fifty years, he held many political and cabinet positions. Before World War I, he served as President of the Board of Trade, Home Secretary and First Lord of the Admiralty as part of the Asquith Liberal government. During the war, he continued as First Lord of the Admiralty until the disastrous Gallipoli Campaign, which he had sponsored, caused his departure from government. He then served briefly on the Western Front, commanding the 6th Battalion of the Royal Scots Fusiliers. He returned to government as Minister of Munitions, Secretary of State for War, and Secretary of State for Air. After the War, Churchill served as Chancellor of the Exchequer in the Conservative (Baldwin) government of 1924--29, controversially returning the pound sterling in 1925 to the gold standard at its pre-War parity, a move widely seen as creating deflationary pressure on the UK economy. Also controversial were Churchill's opposition to increased home rule for India, and his resistance to the 1936 abdication of Edward VIII. Out of office and politically "in the wilderness" during the 1930s, Churchill took the lead in warning about the danger from Hitler and in campaigning for rearmament. On the outbreak of World War II, he was again appointed First Lord of the Admiralty. Following the resignation of Neville Chamberlain on 10 May 1940, Churchill became Prime Minister. His steadfast refusal to consider defeat, surrender or a compromise peace helped inspire British resistance, especially during the difficult early days of the War when Britain stood alone in its active opposition to Hitler. Churchill was particularly noted for his speeches and radio broadcasts, which helped inspire the British people. He led Britain as Prime Minister until victory had been secured over Nazi Germany. After the Conservative Party lost the 1945 election, he became Leader of the Opposition. In 1951, he again became Prime Minister, before retiring in 1955. Upon his death, The Queen granted him the honour of a state funeral, which saw one of the largest assemblies of world statesmen ever.

British tourist is arrested over the death of a Thai hooker - Daily Mail

00:36
Reece Vella, from Worcester, was arrested on Sunday afternoon after bar girl Wannipa Janhuathon (pictured left), 26, fell to her death in the early hours of Saturday in Pattaya, Thailand. The former soldier, who followed his two older brothers into the military, quit the army after suffering from PTSD. Vella served as a private in the Royal Logistics Corps (pictured right in uniform), headquartered at Deepcut Barracks in Surrey, until he left nearly five years ago. During his service, his brother Andrayoss claimed he was one of the top 100 shots in the British Army. His brother said after leaving the army, he suffered with depression and 'fell into the wrong crowd', serving a stint in prison. But it has been claimed this stretch was for the rape of a teenage girl he was convicted of in 2012. The Meaning Behind ‘Trick or Treat’

03:16
Subscribe for more videos, thank you. Halloween is a widely loved holiday. It’s a day to dress up, visit haunted houses, and beautify your home with spooky Halloween decorations. Though there is one tradition that makes this day-or night rather special - the children knocking door to door in fancy dress shouting “trick or treat” in exchange for candy and snacks. But why do they do this? What’s the meaning behind trick or treating? Check out the history of this strange tradition below! The practice of trick or treating has been around since the time of the Celts 2,000 years ago Halloween was then known as Samhain, or the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter, the darker part of the year. Trick or treating began as what was called “mumming” or dressing up as a ghost or demon and acting like a fool for drinks and food. This tradition lasted until the ninth century. In the Middle Ages Christianity found its way to the Celtic lands and Christian customs mingled with old Pagan ones. November 2nd was known as All Souls Day at that time. The people would honour the dead with masquerades and bonfires. Some practiced ‘souling,’ an early form of day trick or treating, where those without much money would visit the homes of the wealthy. The poor would ask for food and sweets in exchange for the promise that they would pray for the wealthy family’s dead loved ones. In Scotland, children would go door to door just like children do now, only they would perform a type of act or trick in exchange for food, sweets or ale. This was a practice known as ‘guising’ - a trick for a treat. The closest tradition that most resembles modern day trick or treating, originated in the UK in the early 1800’s. Children would walk around their neighbourhood wearing masks and carrying effigies, or small sculptures. It was a tradition practiced because of an event in the early 1600’s, when a man named Guy Fawkes was caught and executed for being involved in a plot to blow up the parliament building, and remove King James I from power. Nineteenth century children would wear masks while carrying little representations of Fawkes and ask people “a penny for the guy?” Early American colonists brought Guy Fawkes Day with them and later Irish and Scottish immigrants helped make it popular. During this time cultures mixed until the name Halloween stuck with this holiday. Trick or treating continued to happen annually until World War II, but became popular again after the war when many children populated America during the ‘baby boom’. Candy companies began making a lot of money from people buying candy for the children in their neighbourhoods each year. Today Americans spend about $6 Billion on candy each year on Halloween. So, from Celtic mumming, souling, Scottish guising, and early Britons asking “a penny for the guy,” the tradition we all love has very deep roots. Trick or Treating has its origins in multiple cultures and parts in history. The well-known Halloween custom has had many contributing factors to its existence. Not to mention we even have the baby boomers to thank for Trick or treating’s continued popularity.

Tim Loughton MP - House of Commons - Treasury Questions

00:58
During the first session of Treasury Questions since the re-shuffle, I welcomed the Chief Secretary back to his place and commend to him last year’s “Building Great Britons” report by the all-party parliamentary group for the first 1,001 critical days, which I chair. The report revealed that the cost of getting it wrong on perinatal mental health and child neglect is some £23 billion. I asked him whether he agreed that investing in young people at an early stage is every bit as beneficial to the economy as investing in roads and infrastructure.

Restoring the Queen Victoria recording of 1888

01:35
As is well known, Thomas Edison invented the phonograph in 1877, with tin foil initially being used as the medium for recording sound (mainly the human voice). However, these early tin foil recordings were fragile and prone to tearing, and the sounds recorded on them were of poor quality and quickly wore out with repeated playing. In the early 1880s, researchers at a laboratory established by Alexander Graham Bell perfected a process of making recordings on wax coated cardboard cylinders, which allowed the human voice, as well as musical instruments and such like, to be recorded and replayed many times and with better reproduction. The improvements were partly due to the wax medium being more effective for the storage and transmission of sound waves, but also because the recordings were cut into the wax rather than being embossed (as was the case with the tin foil recordings). Bell's invention was patented as the Graphophone . As a result of this development, tin foil was quickly abandoned as a recording medium and within a few years all phonograph cylinders were made of wax (subsequently other materials were also used). Sydney Morse - an investor in the British arm of the Graphophone company - had royal connections and in the Autumn of 1888 gained permission to take a Graphophone machine and several blank cylinders to Balmoral Castle in Scotland to demonstrate the recording technique to Queen Victoria. This could have been a considerable publicity coup, but Morse was strongly warned against advertising the event. Details of the occasion were, however, given by Henry Edmund, the European representative for the Graphophone company, in "Reminiscences Of A Pioneer", a series of magazine articles he wrote half a century later: "My Offices in Hatton Garden were thronged with persons of all grades of society, all astonished with the new Gramophone (sic). Its fame even reached the ears of Royalty and the aged Queen Victoria expressed a desire to have a demonstration at Balmoral Castle. I could not go myself but my friend and solicitor, Mr Sydney Morse, took an instrument to Scotland and had the honour of showing it to the delightful old lady. Abandoning the usual Royal reserve, Her Majesty expressed her unqualified delight; so much so that Mr Morse was emboldened to request the Queen to speak a few words into the Gramophone (sic)". Further on in his "Reminiscences", Henry Edmund states "Mr Morse exhibited to me a small black cylinder with a few spiral lines traced upon it, containing the record of the voice and speech of the celebrated Queen. He declared that it was his most cherished possession: and would pass it to his children as his chiefest treasure." In 1929, the estate of Sydney Morse (who had died that year) donated several items of interest to the Science Museum, London, including a Graphophone cylinder. Sydney's son Esmond Morse stated in a letter to the museum that his father had demonstrated the Graphophone to Queen Victoria and had recorded her voice. Decades later, two of Sydney Morse's grandchildren recalled that a cylinder was occasionally played to them in the 1920s and were told at the time that the female voice they heard was that of Queen Victoria. For many years, the Science Museum remained unaware that the Graphophone cylinder that had been donated in 1929 by the Morse family was of such enormous potential historical significance. It was the author and researcher Paul Tritton who pulled all the various aspects together and realised the importance of the Graphophone cylinder held by the Science Museum. Mr Tritton arranged for sound engineers from the National Sound Archive (now the British Library Sound Archive) to make a digital transfer of the cylinder in 1991. Given the above, it is quite possible that what you hear coming from this Graphophone cylinder recorded back in 1888 is indeed Queen Victoria's faint voice, but the cylinder has been badly damaged in the intervening years through repeated playing using a heavy stylus that has damaged the wax, making the recorded voice it contains difficult to decipher. Moreover, the person speaking has a soft voice, which mitigates against a clear recording being able to be made in the first place. I have attempted to make the voice in this recording clearer, using a combination of audio restoration/forensic techniques. I cannot claim to have solved the riddle of this most precious of recordings, but for what it's worth I would like to suggest - after hours of listening and re-listening to the recording - that what is said might be:- "Britons restless for their Queen to speak, let me answer, if can be, towards the end to a wonderful gift to me I have never forgotten"

It's clearly a hugely anticipated event in Britain, with more than 100,000 people expected to descend on Windsor tomorrow. But the global reach of the royal wedding is even more astonishing, with hundreds of millions of people around the world expected to be watching on TV tomorrow. Cinemas across America will be showing the wedding on big screens, while 46 US broadcast affiliates are covering the wedding on TV from as early as 4am local time. Among them is the E! TV entertainment network which plans to devote five hours of air time to the wedding that matches a California girl with a British prince. Fans in Meghan's hometown of Los Angeles will have to be up early to watch the service - which begins at noon in England and 4am in the Pacific Daylight Time zone. But restaurants, bars, pubs and even her former school in the city are putting on early morning wedding viewing parties along with themed food and drink. Margaret Thatcher dead: Obituary of former Prime Minister

05:07
Margaret Thatcher has died at the age of 87. We look at her life, her achievements and how she became such a controversial and divisive figure. Lord Tim Bell, a spokesman for the family, said "It is with great sadness that Mark and Carol Thatcher announced that their mother Baroness Thatcher died peacefully following a stroke this morning," Britain's only female prime minister led the Conservatives to three election victories, governing from 1979 to 1990, the longest continuous period in office by a British Prime Minister since the early 19th century. In a statement on the Downing Street Twitter feed, David Cameron said: "It was with great sadness that I learned of Lady Thatcher's death. We've lost a great leader, a great Prime Minister and a great Briton." Labour leader Ed Miliband has said Baroness Thatcher would be remembered as "a unique figure", adding: "She reshaped the politics of a whole generation." She will receive a ceremonial funeral with military honours at St Paul's Cathedral, Downing Street said. Report by Mark Morris.
