[10.9] Pagan Celibacy & Expectations

06:54
Celibacy and Vows thereof... Are they Pagan? If you're Pagan and want to take a vow of celibacy, can you do it in a Pagan way? Heck yeah you can, if you really want to. This and more, this week! This week's topic: from "Your Mom" - Celibacy ------------------------------------------------------- “ Is taking a vow of celibacy a pagan thing? In other words, can I do it in a pagan way? I had three serious relationships- one of them I was married to and had a child with. The last one I had to say goodbye to forever on 1/4/18. It’s a complicated issue, but I feel it’s what everyone in my life expects of me. Every time I am in a relationship, everyone is against it. If I express desire to date again, everyone talks me down. I grew up around 7 women who were straight from the second wave of feminism. I was never taught to believe it was “all about choice”. I am expected to “not need a man” (code for not have a man at all). Since January, I have responded to people eluding to this issue with an image of a catholic woman prostrated in church, taking a vow of celibacy. However, I’m not catholic, I am polytheistic. I feel strongly it’s what I need to do. I want to be able to say I’ve taken a vow of celibacy and be telling the truth. ” Pretty short one from me today, because my thoughts are fairly concise on this! Leave your suggestions or thoughts in the comments! Here's a link to the category on Wikipedia of articles that mention "virgin goddesses" specifically: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Virgin_goddesses Again, the word "virgin" has a different understood meaning in everyday speech than it does when we're talking about deities, a lot of the time. Most people today think of virgin as "never had sex," and usually for women it also means unmarried (being a "maiden", which is another concept itself**) or just sexually inexperienced. Whereas with Deity, there may be accounts in mythology of them having sexual relations, but being "virginal" refers to them being unmarried, not having a partner, and so on. This isn't always expressed in book definitions of the word, but is something I've seen discussed a lot in reference to deities and mythology. Just another thing to think about! Obviously not all Pagans are theists, so a non-theist Pagan wanting to take a vow of celibacy might have no need for celibate deities to relate to, or to address with their vows. But if the idea of researching deities who are non-sexual, or virginal, or celibate is appealing or helpful to people, I definitely start my research by googling and checking Wiki. =) **(as far as Maidenhood, in the triple Goddess concept of Maiden, Mother, Crone, we typically think of Maidens as young girls, unmarried, perhaps even "virgins" in the sexual sense, or simply as pre-menstrual age; Mothers as women who have given birth or are otherwise in the position of Mother/guardian/caretaker, typically married; and Crones as post-menstrual, elderly, wise women, even widows (once married but now without their partner). But those markers don't make sense for everyone--people marry at different ages now, many people have children before marriage or without getting married at all, and people's menstruation can change for many reasons that would put them out of sync with those markers--so it doesn't make sense to use simply age, or marital status, or sexual activity, or fertility, or anything... So some people add a fourth layer, while others expand what they believe the words' definitions include. Interesting stuff! Maybe we'll talk about this another time on the collab, or I'll write a blog, or something.) =P --- My personal channel: http://www.youtube.com/cutewitch772 ---

10 Myths About Pornography | Catholic Talk

01:07:56
The virtue to which we are called with regard to sexual relationships is called chastity. Through integrity and self control, the chaste person observes the true meaning and intimacy of sexual relations. Pornography is gravely offensive to this. The Catechism of the Catholic Church explains, "[pornography] perverts the conjugal act, the intimate giving of spouses to each other. It does grave injury to the dignity of its participants (actors, vendors, the public), since each one becomes an object of base pleasure and illicit profit for others. It immerses all who are involved in the illusion of a fantasy world" (CCC 2354). Christopher West, in his book Good News About Sex and Marriage says this: [Pornography] does nothing but foster in a man his fallen inclination to treat women as things for his own sexual gratification. A man who uses pornography, so long as he remains in its clutches, has incapacitated himself to love women properly . . . he cannot hope to have a healthy, pure relationship with a woman. He cannot hope to enter marriage honestly, fruitfully, and faithfully. Men who use pornography have emasculated themselves. (84) It is important to rely on God’s grace to escape the clutches of pornography so that one can love as God intended.
How To Save Your Marriage Before You Meet Your Spouse | Catholic Talk

01:21:06
As a natural institution, the lasting union of a man and a woman who agree to give and receive rights over each other for the performance of the act of generation and for the fostering of their mutual love. The state of marriage implies four chief conditions: 1. there must be a union of opposite sexes; it is therefore opposed to all forms of unnatural, homosexual behavior; 2. it is a permanent union until the death of either spouse; 3. it is an exclusive union, so that extramarital acts are a violation of justice; and 4. its permanence and exclusiveness are guaranteed by contract; mere living together, without mutually binding themselves to do so, is concubinage and not marriage. Christ elevated marriage to a sacrament of the New Law. Christian spouses signify and partake of the mystery of that unity and fruitful love which exists between Christ and his Church, helping each other attain to holiness in their married life and in the rearing and education of their children. When the Catholic Church teaches that marriage between two baptized persons is a sacrament, it is saying that the couple’s relationship expresses in a unique way the unbreakable bond of love between Christ and his people. Like the other six sacraments of the Church, marriage is a sign or symbol which reveals the Lord Jesus and through which his divine life and love are communicated. All seven sacraments were instituted by Christ and were entrusted to the Church to be celebrated in faith within and for the community of believers. The rituals and prayers by which a sacrament is celebrated serve to express visibly what God is doing invisibly. In a sacramental marriage, God’s love becomes present to the spouses in their total union and also flows through them to their family and community. By their permanent, faithful and exclusive giving to each other, symbolized in sexual intercourse, the couple reveals something of God’s unconditional love. The sacrament of Christian marriage involves their entire life as they journey together through the ups and downs of marriage and become more able to give to and receive from each other. Their life becomes sacramental to the extent that the couple cooperates with God’s action in their life and sees themselves as living “in Christ” and Christ living and acting in their relationship, attitudes and actions. Catholic teaching holds that sacraments bring grace to those who receive them with the proper disposition. Grace is a way of describing how God shares the divine life with us and gives us the help we need to live as followers of Christ. In marriage, the grace of this sacrament brings to the spouses the particular help they need to be faithful and to be good parents. It also helps a couple to serve others beyond their immediate family and to show the community that a loving and lasting marriage is both desirable and possible. Pope Paul VI wrote: “By it [the Sacrament of Matrimony] husband and wife are strengthened and…consecrated for the faithful accomplishment of their proper duties, for the carrying out of their proper vocation even to perfection, and the Christian witness which is proper to them before the whole world” (Humanae Vitae, n. 25).

What Is The Deal With Marriage? | Catholic Talk

59:17
Marriage in the Roman Catholic Church, also called matrimony, is the "covenant by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life and which is ordered by its nature to the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring", and which "has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament between the baptised."[1] Catholic matrimonial law, based on Roman law regarding its focus on marriage as a free mutual agreement or contract, became the basis for the marriage law of all European countries, at least up to the Reformation. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states: "The intimate community of life and love which constitutes the married state has been established by the Creator and endowed by him with its own proper laws. . . . God himself is the author of marriage. The vocation to marriage is written in the very nature of man and woman as they came from the hand of the Creator. Marriage is not a purely human institution despite the many variations it may have undergone through the centuries in different cultures, social structures, and spiritual attitudes. These differences should not cause us to forget its common and permanent characteristics. Although the dignity of this institution is not transparent everywhere with the same clarity, some sense of the greatness of the matrimonial union exists in all cultures. The well-being of the individual person and of both human and Christian society is closely bound up with the healthy state of conjugal and family life." It also says: "The Church attaches great importance to Jesus' presence at the wedding at Cana. She sees in it the confirmation of the goodness of marriage and the proclamation that thenceforth marriage will be an efficacious sign of Christ's presence. In his preaching Jesus unequivocally taught the original meaning of the union of man and woman as the Creator willed it from the beginning permission given by Moses to divorce one's wife was a concession to the hardness of hearts. The matrimonial union of man and woman is indissoluble: God himself has determined it 'what therefore God has joined together, let no man put asunder'. This unequivocal insistence on the indissolubility of the marriage bond may have left some perplexed and could seem to be a demand impossible to realize. However, Jesus has not placed on spouses a burden impossible to bear, or too heavy – heavier than the Law of Moses. By coming to restore the original order of creation disturbed by sin, he himself gives the strength and grace to live marriage in the new dimension of the Reign of God."
Our Glorious Faith | Catholic Talk

01:31:07
Our Glorious Faith and How to Lose It: Faith must be exercised, like muscles. Every time we go to Mass, or pray, or make any sacrifice for God, it is all exercising our Faith. The Catholic Church, also known as the Roman Catholic Church, is the largest Christian church, with more than 1.29 billion members worldwide.[4] As one of the oldest religious institutions in the world, it has played a prominent role in the history and development of Western civilisation.[5] Headed by the Bishop of Rome, known as the Pope, the church's doctrines are summarised in the Nicene Creed. Its central administration, the Holy See, is in the Vatican City, an enclave within Rome, Italy. The Catholic Church teaches that it is the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic church founded by Jesus Christ,[6][7][note 1] that its bishops are the successors of Christ's apostles, and that the Pope is the successor to Saint Peter to whom primacy was conferred by Jesus Christ.[10] It maintains that it practises the original Christian faith, reserving infallibility, passed down by sacred tradition.[11] The Latin Church, the Eastern Catholic Churches, and institutes such as mendicant orders and enclosed monastic orders reflect a variety of theological and spiritual emphases in the Church.[12][13] Of its seven sacraments the Eucharist is the principal one, celebrated liturgically in the Mass.[14] The church teaches that through consecration by a priest the sacrificial bread and wine become the body and blood of Christ. The Virgin Mary is venerated in the Catholic Church as Mother of God and Queen of Heaven, honoured in dogmas and devotions.[15] Its teaching includes sanctification through faith and evangelisation of the Gospel and Catholic social teaching, which emphasises support for the sick, the poor, and the afflicted through the corporal and spiritual works of mercy. The Catholic Church is the largest non-government provider of education and health care in the world.

Anglican–Roman Catholic International Commission (ARCIC) | Catholic Talk

34:29
The Anglican–Roman Catholic International Commission (ARCIC) is an organization created in 1969 which seeks to make ecumenical progress between the Roman Catholic Church and the Anglican Communion.[1] The sponsors are the Anglican Consultative Council and the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity (formerly the Secretariat for Promoting Christian Unity). ARCIC has met with some hostile reaction from Traditionalist Catholics.[30][31] Although ARCIC had just completed the major document on Marian theology in 2003, Pope John Paul II suspended official talks between the Roman Catholic Church and the Anglican Communion, owing to the consecration of Gene Robinson, a homosexual man in a non-celibate relationship, as a bishop in the Episcopal Church in the United States.[32] Moreover, the ordination of women, especially to the episcopacy, has repeatedly been questioned by the Roman Catholic Church leadership as harmful to Christian unity. Walter Kasper, President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, put it this way: The ordination of women to the episcopate "signified a breaking away from apostolic tradition and a further obstacle for reconciliation between the Catholic Church and the Church of England." He also seemed more upset about the warring parties within Anglicanism: "He described the legislation for those opposed to women's ordained ministry in the Church of England as the 'unspoken institutionalism' of an 'existing schism.'"[33] At the opening of the May 2011 meeting, British journalist William Oddie claimed that ARCIC activities were useless, as only the Catholic side had a clear agenda and described all ecumenical activity as leading to a dead end.[25] The ARCIC III Co Chairmen replied saying each communion was formally committed to continuing this sacred task at the highest level. They referred to substantial common ground while acknowledging the existence of significant obstacles, but said they trusted in the power of the Holy Spirit to draw the two communions closer.

Catholics And Islam | Catholic Talk

54:41
The Catholic Church, also known as the Roman Catholic Church, is the largest Christian church, with more than 1.29 billion members worldwide.[4] As one of the oldest religious institutions in the world, it has played a prominent role in the history and development of Western civilisation.[5] Headed by the Bishop of Rome, known as the Pope, the church's doctrines are summarised in the Nicene Creed. Its central administration, the Holy See, is in the Vatican City, enclaved within Rome, Italy. Islam (/ˈɪslɑːm/)[note 1] is an Abrahamic monotheistic religion teaching that there is only one God (Allah)[1] and that Muhammad is the messenger of God.[2][3] It is the world's second-largest religion[4] and the fastest-growing major religion in the world,[5][6][7] with over 1.8 billion followers or 24.1% of the global population,[8] known as Muslims.[9] Muslims make up a majority of the population in 50 countries.[4] Islam teaches that God is merciful, all-powerful, unique[10] and has guided mankind through prophets, revealed scriptures and natural signs.[3][11] The primary scriptures of Islam are the Quran, viewed by Muslims as the verbatim word of God, and the teachings and normative example (called the sunnah, composed of accounts called hadith) of Muhammad (c. 570–8 June 632 CE). Muslims believe that Islam is the complete and universal version of a primordial faith that was revealed many times before through prophets including Adam, Abraham, Moses and Jesus.[12][13][14] As for the Quran, Muslims consider it to be the unaltered and final revelation of God.[15] Like other Abrahamic religions, Islam also teaches a final judgment with the righteous rewarded paradise and unrighteous punished in hell.[16][17] Religious concepts and practices include the Five Pillars of Islam, which are obligatory acts of worship, and following Islamic law, which touches on virtually every aspect of life and society, from banking and welfare to women and the environment.[18][19] The cities of Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem are home to the three holiest sites in Islam.

Viewer support keeps the show going: http://www.Patreon.com/AcronymTV Subscribe - http://bit.ly/VUl21B DISCUSSED: Abortion, Pope Francis, Patriarchy, Does the choice movement need an "it gets better" campaign to empower women to not hide/ apologize about their abortions?, Roe v. Wade, Clinic defenders, Abortion stories, How the Bible teaches women to abort unwanted pregnancy, Bad Choices, Being a target of a pro-life "wanted" poster, Abortion as a local issue, Single women who love sex and don't want babies. Kelly Carlin and Katie Klabusich join Dennis this week on Acronym TV. Kelly Carlin frames her experience of being a woman in the current cultural and political climate in the following way: "The bottom line is, as a woman, I don't feel safe in the world. I feel like an object. I feel like I could be raped or beaten at any moment. And I feel like I don't have real control over my destiny and my future. And I have to feel ashamed of my body and who I am. If I could wake up and know that my culture no longer thought those things about me, the world would be such an incredible place because women could actually feel the power they have to help solve the problems that this planet is facing right now." Katie Klabusich relates her harrowing experience as a target of a "Wanted Poster" campaign from the Pro-Life Action League. "They decided for Lent this year to put together an Internet meme asking people to pray for (three people): me, (and also) an abortion doctor, and a pro-choice journalist. They put the three of us, with our names, cities, where we work, etc., (and published) it in the blog post and told people to 'pray' for us." This was a major concern because, as Katie says," the anti-choice movement has used wanted posters to kill people. It has lead to assassinations." About the Guests | Kelly Carlin hosts a weekly podcast entitled Waking from the American Dream and her recent one woman show, A Carlin Home Companion, sold out around the country while generating rave reviews. She holds a master's degree in Jungian Depth Psychology, but, according to her bio, her desire to be on a stage and yell the word "fuck" kept gnawing at her, and so she decided to follow the call of the stage once again. You can find out more at TheKellyCarlinSite.com Katie Klabusich contributes regularly to a number of radio programs, podcasts and TV/internet video broadcasts. She is an award-winning social media director, fundraiser and community-builder as well as the Activism Director/Segment Writer at The Best of the Left Podcast. She is also a dedicated activist who helps establish clinic defense escort programs, providing logistical and moral support to reproductive access groups. Her website is KatieSpeak.com. Fri, Oct 5: Anti-Kavanaugh Women’s March Types; Don’t Be Beta: Forgive

01:37:38
Fri, Oct 5 Hour 1: Anti-Kavanaugh Protests by Women’s March; Forgive Molesting Father! | 1-3) Technical issues! Sorry, guys! We have a black engineer who wasn’t in. Jesse covers Kavanaugh vote happening soon. | 4) Jesse reports on Kavanaugh protests. Monica asks about telling her mean father, who molested her until she was about 13, that she forgave him a few years before she actually forgave him. She forgave her mother, who’s aware it happened, who’s still with him. Once you forgive, your soul returns to the tree of life within. She’s doing Jesse’s Silent Prayer. Learn to speak up but don’t resent. | 5) Jared from Arkansas thanks Jesse for covering South Africa. Brandon of NY, his mother is dying of cancer. Only God knows who’s going to heaven. Jesse holds him over. Fri, Oct 5 Hour 2: South African Asks How to Have Confidence, Afraid to Face Mother! | 1) Jesse understands Kavanaugh’s emotions at the hearing. His name is forever tainted by evil people who call him a rapist with no evidence. Back to Brandon of NY, from 1st hour, whose mother is dying of cancer. He agrees with Biblical Question: We don’t know who’s going to heaven. He went every day trying to get her to understand that she needs to forgive. He’s wrong for imposing it on her. God lets you suffer and die. People are prideful, their egos are out of control. | 2) Johan of South Africa, age 28, asks how Jesse got his confidence. His girlfriend told a crowd of liberal friends that he’s a huge Trump fan. God took away Jesse’s anger. Fear, doubt, worry, insecurity, need for love disappeared. He has a lot of anger. His father told him it’s his life, and no one would feel sorry for him. His mother stood up for him against the father; she was empathetic. She was wrong — evil. She caused you to identify with her, and turned you away from your father. It’s really hard to forgive her. He’s having sex with his girlfriend: Cut it out, you’re having sex with mama! | 3) Come to Church http://rebuildingtheman.com/church To Johan: Would you rather go down into the jungles of South Africa than to forgive your mother? Are you gonna go and forgive her? Don’t do it in a weak way, “Oh, mum, I love you…” Do my Silent Prayer. http://silentprayer.video | 4) Jesse talks about Johan’s call and mothers: Do not turn your children away from their fathers! Adrian of Virginia says his Christian family used to push Jesus on non-believers. Now the liberals are aggressively pushing people to believe in what they believe in. America has become a big pushover; men are just cowards and wimps. He has a right to be upset; they call him a rapist in front of his children. When human beings learn the Bible, it builds their ego, makes you prideful and think you know what you don’t know. You impose it on people. Likewise with education at universities, you shove liberal views down others’ throats. The knowledge of good and evil is evil. To build the intellect and pride is evil. The nature of Satan — folks are not living from the heart. Work on self so you can overcome anger. Stay calm if you can’t speak up, shake in your boots until then. | 5) Mike from Atlanta, GA, is in Tuscaloosa, AL, an engineer, Latino, but American first. He says we don’t know where people go. We can hope we go to heaven. Fri, Oct 5 Hour 3: Man Attends Catholic Church Against His Will! Angry Woman Rips Up Signs | 1) Mike from Atlanta on Biblical Question: Can you know who goes to heaven? | 2) Skip talks about forgiveness; he says life is not fair. Do we get what we deserve as adults? Seth of Charlotte, NC, age 27, recently got married — they’re Catholic, but he disagrees with its teachings. He says his father wasn’t a Christian, but his mother was. His father was a Chippendale male dancer, and they eventually got divorced. | 3) Seth of Charlotte, NC, talks more about his father and mother, who got pregnant before they were pressured to marry — she was supposed to be a Christian at the time. She divorced and remarried also as a Christian. He was 12 when they divorced. He says his stepdad brought him back to God, inspiring his wife now and him. He says he forgave his mother recently; he’s close with his father, but he turned wild & partying after their divorce — he blames him for his anger since he was a teenager. He goes to Catholic church with his wife, mother, & stepfather — beta male! | 4) Seth justifies going to Catholic church. He talks about vaping. You’re pretending to be a Christian in namesake only. You’re too soft; your nice. When you’re not nice, you’re mean — and both is wrong. Do the prayer http://silentprayer.video | 5) Angry black woman with blonde hair rips up pro-Kavanaugh signs of conservative students at University of Texas in Austin on Tuesday. That woman looked like a transgender!

Catholic Church: Not of this World Anymore? | Quadriga - Talk

42:35
With its uncompromising attitude on issues such as celibacy, same-sex marriage and contraception, the Catholic Church often finds itself facing criticism and incomprehension. Even many practising Catholics feel that some church dogma no longer fits with the modern age. Is the Catholic Church in terminal decline? It is not only outmoded values which have caused some people to turn away from the church. Sexual abuse scandals and the exploitation and intimidation of employees in institutions such as kindergartens or hospitals with links to the Catholic church have undermined the image of the church as a bulwark of morality. In Germany, one Catholic in six is reported to be contemplating leaving the church. For more go to http://www.dw.de/program/quadriga/s-7296-9798

The Catholic Church teaches that it is the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic church founded by Jesus Christ,[6][7][note 1] that its bishops are the successors of Christ's apostles, and that the Pope is the successor to Saint Peter to whom primacy was conferred by Jesus Christ.[10] It maintains that it practises the original Christian faith, reserving infallibility, passed down by sacred tradition.[11] The Latin Church, the Eastern Catholic Churches, and institutes such as mendicant orders and enclosed monastic orders reflect a variety of theological and spiritual emphases in the Church. Of its seven sacraments the Eucharist is the principal one, celebrated liturgically in the Mass.[14] The church teaches that through consecration by a priest the sacrificial bread and wine become the body and blood of Christ.
