My Biggest Regret After Teaching English Abroad for 15 Years TESOL TEFL ESL

11:01
After spending a few years in Japan, I was hooked. I knew there was no way I could go back to the US after living the life I had overseas. I searched for jobs nonstop on the internet and would do anything it took to stay abroad. Over time what I found was that one thing is absolutely certain: If you can speak English and you can teach it, you will always be employed. Indefinitely. This job field is going nowhere. English is the language of business and the language of the world in many cases. Unfortunately, there can be a certain stigma that comes along with being an English teacher abroad and there are many who will undoubtedly seek to belittle you or discount what you're doing. As a teacher who made well into the six figures for many years at many different jobs overseas in language instruction, this is my biggest regret. *********** 🥇COACHING/MANUAL/RESUME SERVICE ▶︎http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com 📕 FREE BOOKLET "The Big 6" ▶︎http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com/blog 📰 BLOG: http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com/blog 🎥 YOUR PERSONALIZED SKYPE CONSULTATION http://www.rockstarESLteacher.com 🔻 FOLLOW ME ON SOCIAL MEDIA🔻 🔵 FACEBOOK | http://facbook.com/benteachesenglishoverseas ✅ INSTAGRAM | http://instagram.com/benteachesenglishoverseas 💙 TWITTER | http://twitter.com/benteachesESL

Getting a Real Job After Just Teaching English Abroad for Years | ESL Teacher

07:02
What are you going to do after you quit teaching English abroad and have to get a REAL job, huh? Good gracious this get me all spun up. I heard this so many times over the years and I'm going to promise you unequivocally right now that if you plan, make contingency plans, and make contingency plans for your contingency plans... you will not ever have to worry about this unless you are just truly lazy and/or need someone to plan your life for you and hold your hand. Even if you fall into this category, there are still no guarantees! Company pension plans are largely a thing of the past and the 401k was invented in the US to take the burden off corporations and quietly screw the worker. Lay offs, downturns, downsizing, recessions.... these things happen! Life happens... take control, take charge, take the wheel ... and you'll love the way you perspective changes for the better. Shrug off these kinds of idiotic comments because they're grounded in ignorance and fear of the unknown. Teaching English in a foreign country comes with no real guarantees, but neither does life in general. Spoiler alert: No one really knows what's going to happen in the future. Luck favors the prepared. *********** 🥇COACHING/MANUAL/RESUME SERVICE ▶︎http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com 📕 FREE BOOKLET "The Big 6" ▶︎http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com/blog 📰 BLOG: http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com/blog 🎥 YOUR PERSONALIZED SKYPE CONSULTATION http://www.rockstarESLteacher.com 🔻 FOLLOW ME ON SOCIAL MEDIA🔻 🔵 FACEBOOK | http://facbook.com/benteachesenglishoverseas ✅ INSTAGRAM | http://instagram.com/benteachesenglishoverseas 💙 TWITTER | http://twitter.com/benteachesESL

The Unfiltered Truth About Hiring Practices for English Teacher Jobs Abroad

06:25
I taught English abroad in countries across the globe for 15 years. Let me give it to you straight, unfiltered, and with no filter about jobs and hiring practices for English teachers abroad. I've seen this from every angle and I am a person with an acute sense of introspection and a lover of all people (believe it or not.) I've gotten questions of this nature since I very first started teaching. I honestly don't like discussing these topics because I am a huge proponent of embracing diversity and I try to find common ground with everyone I meet. That said, I'm not naive and don't believe simply not discussing topics about treatment of English teachers in various contexts abroad will make them disappear. In this video, I give you my $.02 on hiring basis, racism, discrimination, and more as someone with a background in the field of ESL and friends of all nationalities and skin tones. *********** 🥇COACHING/MANUAL/RESUME SERVICE ▶︎http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com 📕 FREE BOOKLET "The Big 6" ▶︎http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com/blog 📰 BLOG: http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com/blog 🎥 YOUR PERSONALIZED SKYPE CONSULTATION http://www.rockstarESLteacher.com 🔻 FOLLOW ME ON SOCIAL MEDIA🔻 🔵 FACEBOOK | http://facbook.com/benteachesenglishoverseas ✅ INSTAGRAM | http://instagram.com/benteachesenglishoverseas 💙 TWITTER | http://twitter.com/benteachesESL
Your Foreign Language Skill is NOT a Good Thing! ESL English Teacher Overseas

11:44
I highly recommend you keep your foreign language skill to yourself if you're interested in teaching English abroad. Keep it in your back pocket, it will help you there more than anywhere else in some foreign countries. If you know what's going on when they think you don't, you'll be able to hone in on scenarios where you might be getting screwed over. If you put it out there that you are a fluent speaker of the local language, it just might cost you the job. Find out why in this video. *********** 🥇COACHING/MANUAL/RESUME SERVICE ▶︎http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com 📕 FREE BOOKLET "The Big 6" ▶︎http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com/blog 📰 BLOG: http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com/blog 🎥 YOUR PERSONALIZED SKYPE CONSULTATION http://www.rockstarESLteacher.com 🔻 FOLLOW ME ON SOCIAL MEDIA🔻 🔵 FACEBOOK | http://facbook.com/benteachesenglishoverseas ✅ INSTAGRAM | http://instagram.com/benteachesenglishoverseas 💙 TWITTER | http://twitter.com/benteachesESL
How to Find the Best Job Markets Teaching English Abroad for ESL Teachers

02:36
A lot of English teachers seeking employment abroad don't think economically. I'm not saying you need a degree in Business to understand where to find ESL jobs, but hear me out. There is one trend that defines strong economies the world over and that is the job market. Would you buy an apartment house with 50 units in a ghost town with no jobs? Of course you wouldn't. So why do people go to teach English in the middle of nowhere and expect to find good income earning potential? *********** 🥇COACHING/MANUAL/RESUME SERVICE ▶︎http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com 📕 FREE BOOKLET "The Big 6" ▶︎http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com/blog 📰 BLOG: http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com/blog 🎥 YOUR PERSONALIZED SKYPE CONSULTATION http://www.rockstarESLteacher.com 🔻 FOLLOW ME ON SOCIAL MEDIA🔻 🔵 FACEBOOK | http://facbook.com/benteachesenglishoverseas ✅ INSTAGRAM | http://instagram.com/benteachesenglishoverseas 💙 TWITTER | http://twitter.com/benteachesESL

I Laughed All the Way to the Bank When Haters Said Teaching English Overseas Wasn't a Real Job

03:36
I remember I heard this phrase about teachers for the first time when I was 14 years old. I forgot about it until I started teaching English overseas and someone parroted it back to me along with the age-old "Those who can't do teach." As an English teacher abroad, I quickly learned it's a phrase insecure people use throughout the world. Many people will thank teachers publicly and give them lavish amounts of praise in front of crowds, but the honest reality is that teaching is a very thankless profession and legal minefield in many places. When I first started teaching, it bothered me a little bit because, frankly, I've always been an overachiever and I wanted to do something cool and do something that had a snappy title to it like many others. Over time, however, I began to realize that teaching is awesome and doing it overseas *with the right strategy* is a great way to make big money fast for those in the know. I dialed into opportunity, ignored the crowds, and never looked back. My ESL classes and the income I generated over the course of my tenure as "just an English teacher" allowed me to build a rental portfolio of 30 plus properties and retire. The haters are still working their dead end jobs. I don't laugh at them or rub it in.... but they see me now. *********** 🥇COACHING/MANUAL/RESUME SERVICE ▶︎http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com 📕 FREE BOOKLET "The Big 6" ▶︎http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com/blog 📰 BLOG: http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com/blog 🎥 YOUR PERSONALIZED SKYPE CONSULTATION http://www.rockstarESLteacher.com 🔻 FOLLOW ME ON SOCIAL MEDIA🔻 🔵 FACEBOOK | http://facbook.com/benteachesenglishoverseas ✅ INSTAGRAM | http://instagram.com/benteachesenglishoverseas 💙 TWITTER | http://twitter.com/benteachesESL

9 Reasons 90% of ESL Teachers Make No Money Teaching English

15:38
When I was first starting out teaching in English, I worked alongside a lot of people who weren't serious about teaching. They laughed at it and made a lot of jokes about ESL. Most of these just saw it as a temporary way to get some money or support themselves in a foreign country or fill a gap year. Over time I came to realize that the main rule here is of course that you get out what you put in. If you don't take it seriously, you won't be taken seriously either. If you seek to become a professional and keep these 9 points in mind, you will become part of the 10% that makes money. Hopefully, you will move into the upper echelon of TEFL teachers who make six figures. *********** 🥇COACHING/MANUAL/RESUME SERVICE ▶︎http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com 📕 FREE BOOKLET "The Big 6" ▶︎http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com/blog 📰 BLOG: http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com/blog 🎥 YOUR PERSONALIZED SKYPE CONSULTATION http://www.rockstarESLteacher.com 🔻 FOLLOW ME ON SOCIAL MEDIA🔻 🔵 FACEBOOK | http://facbook.com/benteachesenglishoverseas ✅ INSTAGRAM | http://instagram.com/benteachesenglishoverseas 💙 TWITTER | http://twitter.com/benteachesESL
Is Teaching English In Japan Worth It?

09:25
When asked recently, is coming over to teach in Japan a downgrade, the question's clarity was unsettling. After all, the internal dialogue we tell ourselves about our choices is so usually biased in our favour we can often miss the harsh realities of our less productive choices. I'm glad to say that although shaken by facing a question that so decicisely cuts away my ego's defensive stance, I am still very much in favour of my choice to come. We all, I think, are searching for peace. In understanding that peace is a result of our passions pursused, I knew I had made the right decision. Anything we do in life will have some element of struggle. The question is: are you struggling through what you love, or what you hate? Also, cats are so wonderfully fuzzy, I want to snuggle them forever. STOP Trying to Get Your Students to Like You: Teaching English Abroad

03:32
Just stop. If you're trying really really hard and spoiling students and acting ridiculous to try to get them to like you, it won't happen. Do your job, lay the foundation, create an atmosphere of respect and open dialogue, enforce consequences for breaking the rules, and the rest will follow. Let it grow organically. If they're learning and progressing and know what to expect from you, they'll respect you and it will all work out better than if you try hard. Use treats and rewards within moderation, but never as a crutch or something that becomes expected. Many new English teachers make the mistake of going abroad and trying to pal around with students and be too jokey and I've seen it fail again and again. *********** 🥇COACHING/MANUAL/RESUME SERVICE ▶︎http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com 📕 FREE BOOKLET "The Big 6" ▶︎http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com/blog 📰 BLOG: http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com/blog 🎥 YOUR PERSONALIZED SKYPE CONSULTATION http://www.rockstarESLteacher.com 🔻 FOLLOW ME ON SOCIAL MEDIA🔻 🔵 FACEBOOK | http://facbook.com/benteachesenglishoverseas ✅ INSTAGRAM | http://instagram.com/benteachesenglishoverseas 💙 TWITTER | http://twitter.com/benteachesESL

Leaving My High Salary Teaching Job In China?

I have been in China for almost 3 years now. I have loved living here so much but I am not sure whether to renew my contract or to just pursue other endeavors that I am currently working on. Teaching jobs in China can be very rewarding and offer a high enough salary to live a comfortable life. I enjoy teaching but I am not passionate about it. It has a high salary, low hours and I have lots of free time to do what I want. I just don't know if it will get in the way in the future or if I should just find an alternative. When you're getting ready to go teach English abroad, don't assume you'll never need to drive. Also, never assume that your home country's license will allow you to drive in a foreign country. Having a few of these is a good insurance policy, they're pretty easy to get, and they can make life in your adopted home country while you're teaching English a lot easier. Even if you don't plan to drive, you might want to somewhere else where you're taking that sweet teacher vacation time that we all love so much. *********** 🥇COACHING/MANUAL/RESUME SERVICE ▶︎http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com 📕 FREE BOOKLET "The Big 6" ▶︎http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com/blog 📰 BLOG: http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com/blog 🎥 YOUR PERSONALIZED SKYPE CONSULTATION http://www.rockstarESLteacher.com 🔻 FOLLOW ME ON SOCIAL MEDIA🔻 🔵 FACEBOOK | http://facbook.com/benteachesenglishoverseas ✅ INSTAGRAM | http://instagram.com/benteachesenglishoverseas 💙 TWITTER | http://twitter.com/benteachesESL
Why I Decided to Teach English in Korea •• Following Your Truth

10:16
Hello everyone! So if you saw my recent Insta story, then you know that I have been offered a job in Seoul, South Korea! Since I was adamant before about getting a job in my field (advertising), I wanted to kind of explain why I pivoted and decided to just teach~ I was to emphasize that I did not decide to teach because I failed at entering the ad world - I still believe that I could get an ad job today. I decided to teach because I am going to Korea for the sake of going to Korea. I want to be immersed in another culture, not another office. Teaching allows me to connect with children, learn about the country, and most of all, enjoy myself! This isn't to say that I won't get an ad job in future - but for now, teaching gives me an excellent stability and a wonderful start. If you get anything out of this video, let it be this quote - "My father could've been a great comedian, but he didn't believe that was possible for him. And so he made a conservative choice, instead. He got a safe job as an accountant. And when I was 12 years old, he was let go from that safe job. And our family had to do whatever we could to survive. I learned many great lessons from my father - Not the least of which was that you can fail at what you don't want so you might as well take a chance on doing what you love." - Jim Carrey I know money is important, but happiness is greater, right? I would hope so. Best of luck, everyone! - Rachel

How to become an EFL teacher

08:58
The most reliable independent advice on the best qualification to get to teach English. I’ve been in English Language Teaching since 1987, and my focus for the last fifteen years has been on teacher training and teacher recruitment. A lot of people waste money on TEFL courses so this video answers the questions: Could I be an EFL teacher? and What’s the best way to become an EFL teacher? Anyone can be an EFL teacher, providing they’re an educated native speaker or have ‘native-speaker competence’. Subject knowledge and teaching skills can be learnt, so not knowing much about grammar rules initially is not a barrier. To be a good teacher you need to be able to inspire your students to learn. This requires an enthusiasm for your subject, a lively and outgoing personality, a natural talent for explaining things and a good deal of patience. There are a range of TEFL courses out there all offering different qualifications at different prices. The two main ELT qualifications with worldwide recognition offered in the UK are the CELTA – that’s Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults awarded by UCLES, and the Cert. TESOL - Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages awarded by Trinity College London. These have, are usually done intensively over four or five weeks and always include observed teaching practice with real students. The cost of these courses is usually around twelve hundred pounds. Cheaper online or weekend courses don’t meet the British Council’s criteria: the British Council says that to be considered as a valid certificate in ELT or TESOL the qualification must: 1) be externally validated by a reputable examining body 2) contain at least six hours’ supervised teaching practice 3) contain at least 100 hours of ELT input. Which part of the world do you want to teach in? Most TEFL work is abroad, but there is work in the UK in the summer. Outside the UK the general rule is: the more developed the country, the stricter the laws concerning the employment of EFL teachers. In practice this means that teachers without recognised qualifications and with little or no experience can find work in places like South America, the Far East, Eastern Europe and Africa. How long do you plan to do it for? If you’re planning to spend two or more years teaching abroad it might be better to do a CELTA or Cert. TESOL course because either of those qualifications will give you more flexibility and will give you an edge when looking for a job. You need to look at the money you spend on an accredited qualification as an investment which will pay you back over time. So to sum up, these are your choices: 1) A CELTA or Cert. TESOL course, costing about £1200, plus accommodation and travel 2) An online course costing anything from £99 to £360, or 3) A weekend course costing anything from £145 to £200 plus accommodation and travel

Are there any age limits for TEFL teaching?

02:57
The good news is there is no real age restrictions on who can take a TEFL course and then go on to teach English abroad. At ITTT we do require you to be at least 18 years old to enroll on our courses but there are certainly no upper age limits. Over the years we have successfully trained people of all ages, many of whom have gone on to have successful careers as English language teachers. As long as you are a native or near-native English speaker who is keen to learn new skills and is open to new ideas, then your age should be no barrier to your success. Although a large number of new TEFL graduates are in their 20s, it doesn't mean they are always the most sought after by employers. Yes, there are many employers around the world who are only interested in recruiting younger teachers for various different reasons. However, there are plenty of situations where more mature teachers are equally popular. If you have any previous experience in teaching or training related employment, then you will have little problem landing a teaching job. In fact, simply having plenty of general life experience can often go in your favor. One factor worth remembering is that roughly half of all EFL classes are for adult language learners, with the business English sector being one of the fastest growing. Many employers in these areas prefer their teachers to be more mature to help create a good rapport in the classroom, whilst any history in the world of business will also go strongly in your favor. Age can be an issue in certain countries where visa requirements include an upper age restriction. When choosing where to teach it is advisable to thoroughly research any visa or work permit restrictions that may apply to your age range. A certain level of flexibility in where you look for work will also help you to find the right job. Certain regions are more likely to offer opportunities for all ages, with Latin America, Southeast Asia and the Middle East all being particularly good areas to explore. When looking to teach English abroad it is worth noting that more than half the jobs available worldwide require candidates to conduct an interview in person. This creates a great opportunity for teachers of all ages, as you get to meet the employer in person and show them that you are fit, healthy and professional in your approach, regardless of the age on your passport. The bottom line is, if you are keen to teach English abroad then there are jobs out there for everyone. Are you ready to live and teach abroad? Want to Teach English Abroad? Are You Researching or Overthinking Everything About ESL?

03:19
Have you been studying ESL teacher markets overseas forever and you're still sitting there scared to pull the trigger? I'm with you. I was that person for quite a long time. I very seldom make fast, snap decisions and I like to analyze things and do my due diligence. The times in my life where I've rushed into decisions (like the 1986 BMW 325e with the blown head gasket I bought at auction) I've gotten burned. That said, there does come a point at which an extreme amount of investigation becomes counterproductive. There is such a thing as doing research and analysis and there is overthinking, over-analyzing, and what's known as analysis paralysis. Teaching English overseas is no exception. *********** 🥇COACHING/MANUAL/RESUME SERVICE ▶︎http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com 📕 FREE BOOKLET "The Big 6" ▶︎http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com/blog 📰 BLOG: http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com/blog 🎥 YOUR PERSONALIZED SKYPE CONSULTATION http://www.rockstarESLteacher.com 🔻 FOLLOW ME ON SOCIAL MEDIA🔻 🔵 FACEBOOK | http://facbook.com/benteachesenglishoverseas ✅ INSTAGRAM | http://instagram.com/benteachesenglishoverseas 💙 TWITTER | http://twitter.com/benteachesESL
The Loser English Teacher Mentality | Teaching ESL Abroad

05:11
Many English teachers over time want a change and they want to do something new. Many people aspire to go abroad and see teaching ESL as a viable option, but something gets in the way. Doubt, hesitation, fear of change, and failure to act will keep you in the same rut going through the motions just trying to scrape by. Over analysis paralyses some people who never become English teachers and never even get on the plane to go to foreign countries. In many cases, they have no idea what they're missing out on. Invest in yourself, never give up, and make things happen. We get a few chances in our lives to create lasting memories and real change. When these moments come about, seize them and don't think twice. *********** 🥇COACHING/MANUAL/RESUME SERVICE ▶︎http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com 📕 FREE BOOKLET "The Big 6" ▶︎http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com/blog 📰 BLOG: http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com/blog 🎥 YOUR PERSONALIZED SKYPE CONSULTATION http://www.rockstarESLteacher.com 🔻 FOLLOW ME ON SOCIAL MEDIA🔻 🔵 FACEBOOK | http://facbook.com/benteachesenglishoverseas ✅ INSTAGRAM | http://instagram.com/benteachesenglishoverseas 💙 TWITTER | http://twitter.com/benteachesESL

"Just Love Your ESL Students and the Rest Will Take Care of Itself"

06:20
I run a very tight ship with my English classes and I do not care if my students like me or not. Some TEFL teachers have no discipline measures in place in their classrooms and/or are exceedingly lax and it's often to the detriment of eager kids who genuinely want to learn and better themselves. Classroom management is an inherent part of being a good teacher. If you fail to create an environment conducive to learning English, you are doing no one any favors--yourself included. Leave your ego and desire to be loved at the door or save it for your family reunion. Give your students what they need and what will ultimately benefit them--and sometimes that includes a swift kick in the ass. *********** 🥇COACHING/MANUAL/RESUME SERVICE ▶︎http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com 📕 FREE BOOKLET "The Big 6" ▶︎http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com/blog 📰 BLOG: http://www.benteachesenglishoverseas.com/blog 🎥 YOUR PERSONALIZED SKYPE CONSULTATION http://www.rockstarESLteacher.com 🔻 FOLLOW ME ON SOCIAL MEDIA🔻 🔵 FACEBOOK | http://facbook.com/benteachesenglishoverseas ✅ INSTAGRAM | http://instagram.com/benteachesenglishoverseas 💙 TWITTER | http://twitter.com/benteachesESL
Teaching English in Japan, Without a Degree

09:27
This is a small response video to answer of few questions regarding working in Japan without a degree. My experience has been that people believe a degree is absolutely necessary when in fact it is not. Many individuals have gotten jobs, the actual major requirement is that you have grown up in an English speaking school and with that alone you are eligible to work for these "higher level jobs". The truth remains someone may have the edge on you with a degree but you should not count yourself out. for contact, davetrippinon@gmail.com

How to Start an Online Teaching Business - The Mind of the Entrepreneur - Drew Badger

Click here to discover The Insight and become a confident, fluent English speaker - http://www.englishanyone.com/speak-fluent-english-confidently-in-6-months/ Click here to learn more about our upcoming business course - http://www.englishanyone.com/biz/ What you'll learn today are some of the most important principles of entrepreneurship I’ve learned over my early career… The keys to business success. In this video, you’ll discover: The Dangerous Myth of the Entrepreneur The #1 driver – and benefit – of a successful business The 1 idea that makes success possible Put what I’ll share into practice and you, too, will be on your way to building a successful business that can improve the lives of millions of people around the world, and give you financial freedom… More than business skills or tactical information about how to write sales copy, build websites or advertise, the one thing most responsible for me finally achieving success was knowledge of a single life principle, what I call The Insight. Everything that happens in your life is a choice point. It may be that the person who finds your wallet becomes a trusted friend and adviser, turning a seemingly unfortunate situation into a fortunate one. Maybe not. The point is that in the moment, you can never know for sure. So why choose to complicate things with a negative attitude, almost certainly turning a neutral experience into a negative one? You see, there is no such thing as an independent experience. Your life is an unending stream of events, each connected to the next. So, logically, you can’t consider any one event as good or bad. To fail is to stop walking on a path because some experience looks negative, frustrating or difficult to you. Yet, how do you really know that a mistake or frustration isn’t part of something positive that will lead you to your ultimate goal? The truth, as hard as it may be to believe at times, is that life is merely how you see it. You may not be able to control the world around you, but you always have the power to decide how you think, feel and react. That’s the REAL secret to success! The best part about The Insight is that it’s something everyone has access to. You just need to accept responsibility for success or failure. The takeaways from this presentation: 1. How you think is the strongest indicator of your future success. If you can control how you feel about situations, and view the seemingly disastrous as potentially beneficial, you will be well-prepared for the entrepreneur’s journey. 2. To become successful, learn from those who are where you’d like to be. Remember that advice is often worth what you pay for it. 3. To build a successful business, act like an entrepreneur. Listen to your market and build systems you can leverage to serve more people with less effort.
