His plan for quality mass and extreme strength isn't complicated. In fact, it's steeped in the fundamentals and old-school exercises that should be at the heart of everyone's program. It's a surefire road to growth, but it's fraught with pain and struggle. If you want to learn bodybuilding from the world's best bodybuilder, you're in the right place. | Basics Are Best | "The biggest mistake being made in bodybuilding today is that people aren't covering basic exercises," says the Austrian Oak. And by basic, Arnold doesn't mean easy. Many contemporary fitness centers are full of people on machines, not in squat racks, and big-box gyms often lack even a single platform. Arnold disapproves: "Today, when I go in the gymnasium, I don't see any of the kids learning about the clean and press, or the snatch, or the upright row from the floor." Schwarzenegger's insistence on the essential lifts is not due to some grandfatherly desire to live in the past. It comes from decades of continued interest and expertise in the industry, and from the hard-earned knowledge that it doesn't take fancy machines or off-the-wall programming to become arguably the best bodybuilder in history. Get back to your bodybuilding roots and experience unbelievable growth. | Arnold Schwarzenegger's Training Tips | Chest: "There are three chest exercises that should always be done," Arnold says. "The bench press, the incline bench press at different angles, and the dumbbell flye." Back: "For back, I did chin-ups, bent-over barbell and dumbbell rows, and the T-bar row. Any kind of rowing movement will give you that thickness. Those are the exercises I relied on from the beginning of my career to the end." Arms: Arnold relied on the barbell curl to build thick biceps, but he also used incline dumbbell curls and concentration curls to isolate his biceps. "For triceps," Arnold says, "we did a lot of narrow [close-grip] bench press in the early days. And then triceps push downs and overhead triceps extensions later." Shoulders: Arnold's shoulders were built by barbell presses, behind-the-neck barbell presses, lateral raises, military presses, and dumbbell presses. "We always did presses behind the neck and a special dumbbell press which would stretch out the front delt at the bottom and fully flex it at the top. Now those are called Arnold presses." Legs "The squat is the most important exercise to create big thighs," says Arnold. "I did back squats, front squats, leg extensions, lunges, single-leg deadlifts, good morning exercises, and a lot of leg curls." Abs: "The regular training we did for abs was just leg raises, knee raises, crunches, and sit-ups. I was one of those people who thought that if I was a bit fat it was genetic and there was nothing to do. Then I really put myself into fitness and I saw my body transform little by little. I felt better and better, the look I have on my body has completely changed. A simple example, I was obsessed with the weight I was doing (like many other people ..) and today I do not care. I know that the physical result is more important than the number on the scale. If you want to change, you can, just start without giving you excuses. If I did it, you can do it too ! I promise ! You will feel good in your body and your mind ! For me sport became a habit, something that was part of my schedule. The gym, has become a moment for me, to make me feel good. It's no longer a transformation in a short term, it's a way of life. And physical progress naturally follows from training at the Gym and eating well. I totally devoted to bodybuilding, I did not do any cardio at all but I do my own HIITs workouts . I have noticed that since I only do bodybuilding, I have never progressed so much physically as in my performances. This is what I like with bodybuilding, you can really see your progress, increasing your weights, which allows to build self-confidence and always push its limits. When you hear people talking about someone having good genetics for bodybuilding this is what they mean. Mesomorph body types tend to respond well to changes in diet and training. They can easily gain muscular bodyweight when following a high calorie bulking diet. And they can easily lose bodyfat when following a low calorie cutting diet. All the top pro bodybuilders have this type of physique. Not everyone will fit in exactly to these body types. Most of us will have a combination of the 3. For example, it's possible to have a slim build and yet still have excess bodyfat around the middle. This is often referred to as "skinny fat". Some people have a small upper body and a heavy lower body, which is very common among women. Or a big upper body and skinny legs, often referred to as "chicken legs". But for the most part you will be predominately one of the 3 main body types and you can take steps to structure your workouts and nutrition program to better meet your fitness goals.

Usually the issue is two pronged with both their workouts and nutrition plan to blame for their lack of muscle size. In this video, I’m covering the mistakes made in the workouts and giving you a workout plan for skinny guys that will help you to start adding muscle to your frame without having to sacrifice your low body fat level you likely are starting with. In order to build muscle as a skinny guy you have to look yourself in the mirror and confront your fears first. I know it sounds odd but it is a common problem that sets the roadblock up, preventing you from making any progress. Many hardgainers will fear going to the gym because they don’t want to face the ridicule of the bigger guys around them. That has to stop today. In fact, you’d likely find that if you talked to the majority of these big muscle guys that they would admire your pursuit of change and might even sympathize with you having taken that journey themselves already. Once you get to the gym it’s time to start simplifying your workout plan. The biggest problem with skinny guys is that they try and to more rather than less. It’s an obvious mistake and one that I can see why people make so often. That said, if you are not enhanced and are a natural lifter, doing less is almost always the first step to take rather than trying more. That said, you want to pick just one exercise for each of the six major muscle groups in your body. These are your chest, back, shoulders, legs, and arms. The exercises you choose should be compound in nature and hit multiple muscles at one time. Not just that but these exercises allow you to gradually load up the weight over time as you get stronger. This is why you would pick a barbell curl instead of a concentration curl. Once you identify the exercises you are going to use (my suggestions are provided in the video) then you want to actually lower the weight you might be inclined to try and use. Remember, your discomfort in the gym might make you try and compensate by swinging around weights that you simply cannot command. Don’t do this. Instead, back down on the weight and make sure you can actually lift it with good form and own it. From here, the fun begins. Add weight to the bar on every exercise at every opportunity. Soon you will see that your muscles will grow almost before your eyes. You will gain confidence and you will see muscle growth that will inspire you to keep going. Your only goal at this point should be to be sure you are pushing yourself as hard as you can. Only when you get comfortable being uncomfortable will you see the gains continue to come at a rapid pace. So, I cannot wait to share it with you guys. A question that I often get is what is the difference between cardio and strength training, which is better and how do I incorporate both? There's no easy way to answer that question, but the difference between cardio and strength training is that one is aerobic, which is cardio and one is anaerobic. During aerobic exercise, the body draws on glycogen and/or fat for energy. During anaerobic exercise, the body cannot draw easily on fat stores. The mistake that people often make is that they'll do their cardio workout before their strength training workout. If you think about it, from a common sense perspective, why is that bad? Well, if you exhaust your legs by running or on the elliptical or whatever, then you try and go lift heavy weights or do squats or any other weight bearing activity, you're already going to be fatigued from doing your cardio first. That said, you should always warm up, but you only need five to ten minutes. Now, if you do your cardio after your strength training workout, the body is depleting its glycogen source. So, it's drawing on glycogen because it can't draw on fat. Okay, great, you power through your strength-training anaerobic workout. Now you move on to your cardio. But what's going to happen is because you've, hopefully, depleted your glycogen stores when you were doing your anaerobic workout, when you go to do your aerobic workout, the body goes, "Hmm, let me go to the fat stores for energy." Ideally, in the best case scenario, that's what's going to happen. During your anaerobic strength-training routine, if you're working on a specific muscle group or a specific body area, let's say you're working on your lower body, you're doing some heavier leg work and there's weights involved, and your legs are tired after that strength-training workout, for your cardio following that, if you're going to do cardio following that, you don't want to go do high intensity interval sprints. Because your legs are already tired and that can increase your risk of injury. Ideally, you want to separate. The cardio that you do, you don't want it to be focused on the same body parts that you just worked during your strength-training workout, if you're going to do those two things back to back. If you're working on your upper body, don't go sit on the rowing machine afterwards because your upper body is already tired. So, just use common sense. That's a little tip. Aerobic activity isn't just for burning fat. There are different types of cardio that you can do. You can do high intensity intervals. For fat burning, you can do long lengths of running. If you're a marathoner, half-marathoner, a lot of people who do that. That's not something that's necessarily for fat burning, or muscle toning, but that's more to increase your endurance and stamina exercise. There's different types of cardio that you can do. There's high impact cardio, which would be running, and there's low impact cardio, which would be something like swimming, which is safe for anyone and great if you're rehabbing or you have an injury. So, lots of different types of cardio to do. Obviously, you saw on our other videos, lots of different types of strength training that you can do to increase muscle mass, you can do strength training to burn fat, you can do strength training just to get stronger and more fit. So, there's no one reason to do any of those things and that's the beauty of it. You need both cardio and strength training to round out your fitness routine. One is not better than the other. They're just different. Your body responds differently and you need them both. So, get to work.

All right. Some weight training tips for you ladies. Now the first thing that I hear from many women is, "I don't want to weight train. I don't want to get big and bulky. I don't want to look muscular. I'm going to look like a man. I can't lift heavy weights." Let me tell you if you haven't heard it before, there is no way that you will look like a man unless you have a hormone imbalance. Women just don't produce enough testosterone to grow as big as men. Therefore, you should not be afraid of lifting weights because no matter how heavy the weight, you're really never going to get huge. You always need to stretch. If you don't stretch the muscle won't appear long and lean. It can have a bulkier look. And you need to maintain a clean diet because you can build muscle underneath a layer of fat. You know the more fat that you have over that layer of muscle, the larger you're going to look naturally until you get rid of that fat. So those are a couple of things to keep in mind. But please do not worry because you will not look like a man even by lifting very heavy weights. Most women don't actually lift enough weight. Another thing to keep in mind is that as women, we lose 5% of our muscle mass every ten years after age 30. So starting at age 30, your muscle mass is dropping off by 5% every ten years so it's really, really important that regardless of what age you are you continue a strength training routine. If you start before the age of 30 that's actually better because you're building muscle mass and your body will have that muscle memory and it will be easier for you as you get older. But even if you're 35, 40, 45, 50 it doesn't matter. Pick up a set of weights. It's never too late to learn. That said, if you're brand new to strength training and you're not quite sure how to use them, don't just follow a DVD or even our videos alone. Get the help of a trainer, even if it's just a couple of times so that they can correct your form and that you understand how to do it on your own. Another cool fact if you didn't already know this is that muscle burns fat. Yes, it does. So the more muscle that you have on your body, the higher your metabollic rate will be, theoretically, because muscle requires energy so you are going to expend more calories the more muscle that you have on your body. So it behooves you to build some muscle mass and it's not that easy for women. You really have to work at it, eat enough protein and keep a clean diet, get enough rest. Rest is also really important. Don't overdo it. More is not necessarily better. People tend to think, "Well, if 15 reps is good then 30 reps is even better." That's not necessarily the case. You need to rest your muscles in order for them to grow. So what happens during exercise is that you're creating tiny tears in the muscle fiber. Okay? And the way that the muscle grows and strengthens and hardens is by those torn muscle fibers healing. So you want to create those teeny little tears. They're good. But if you don't give yourself adequate time to rest, you're never going to see any improvement. So it's really, really crucial to rest. If you work legs one day, don't work them the next day. Just listen to your body. Being a little bit sore is good sometimes, but you don't want too much pain. No pain, no gain is true only to an extent. Don't force yourself to the point where you can't take it anymore. Another important point is that the scale lies. Yes, it's true. The scale can lie to you. And what I mean by that is that the scale is not literally lying but that people often focus on the number that's on the scale and while that can be a good motivator to inspire you to work out and lose weight, it's important not to focus so much on that number, specifically if you are weight training and looking to increase your muscle mass. Cardio? Ab work? The first video {Get Six Pack Abs by Summer} was all about getting the fat process burning. In this video men's style, grooming, fitness and lifestyle expert, Aaron Marino of IAmAlphaM, AaronMarino, and Pete & Pedro is now talking about muscle building. He shows his 2 week progress where he's lost fat and gained muscle. He uses the scale along with body fat measurements. FAT BURNING :: The fat burning supplements he uses are Quadracarn (3 times a day) and CLA (3 capsules 3 times a day). He explains how they work with the CLA breaks down fat, and the L-Carnitine takes the fat to be used as energy. They are a fat shredding dynamic duo. He won Natural Nations with this method. He also uses a whole food multi-vitamin (he uses New Chapter). MUSCLE BURNING :: For muscle building, 150 grams of protein a day (gram per pound) in 3 main meals (25-30 grams per serving). Then in between he takes whey protein after working out. Instead of eating meat (ie: chicken breast), the amino acids help the healing start faster because it's already broken down. He's super excited about Glutamine (amino acid). Muscles lose it after working out strenuously, but this Glutamine supplement is incredible for cell voluminzation and anti-catabolic properties.
