https://www.iitutor.com Spartiate women played important roles in their society as the bearers of children the mothers of warriors heiresses managers of estates. Helot women performed vital domestic and agricultural functions. The female voice of Sparta is not heard. So we are entirely reliant on sources written by men. Xenophon, an Athenian soldier, spent some time in Sparta in the late 5th and early 4th century B.C. Aristotle wrote in the 4th century B.C. and was highly critical of Sparta. Everyone in Spartan society including women, was expected to support the military ethos on which the society was based. Spartiate women had considerably more freedom, than the women of Athens. Spartan women were encouraged to play an active social role. The main function of upper class Spartan women was similar to that of their Athenian sisters – to be wives and mothers of citizens. Xenophon said that for the Spartiate or free woman, child bearing was the most important function. A Spartan man’s life revolved around the military and being a soldier. Spartan women were educated to be the proper mother of warriors in a warrior state. The Spartan education system was controlled by the state. Young Spartan girls remained at home with their mothers. But they were still expected to be educated. It is believed the Spartan girls were taught the basics of reading and writing. Girls were organised into bands (similar to the boys) for team games and choral singing. Xenophon wrote about Spartan girls and says it was Lycurgus who prescribed their upbringing. “Lycurgus considered slave girls quite adequate to produce clothing, and thought that for free women, the most important job was to bear children.” “Lycurgus considered slave girls quite adequate to produce clothing, and thought that for free women, the most important job was to bear children.” In the first place, therefore, he prescribed physical training for the female sex, no less than for the male; next just as for men, he arranged competitions of racing and strength for women also.” Spartan girls were married in their late teens. Spartans were expected to marry in their own social class. By which a man would choose a bride. Carry her off is thought to have taken place. This suggests a lack of choice on the girls part. A.J. Ball, suggests that Spartan mothers did in fact have some say in whom their daughters married. This suggests a lack of choice on the girls part. A.J. Ball, suggests that Spartan mothers did in fact have some say in whom their daughters married. The actual CAPTURE was probably a symbolic act. It is thought that a pre-nuptial wedding feast took place. Married women in Sparta exercised much more control and influence in their society than did their Athenian counterparts. They took no part in the communal life of men. hey could not vote. But they played an important role in the transfer of property. Wealth in Sparta revolved around land ownership. The land was owned and controlled by the upper class Spartiate families. At the beginning of the classical period, A Spartan woman could inherit land. But she didn’t own it. It was passed to her offspring. By the end of the classical period Aristotle and Xenophon inform us, women did own and manage estates without male guardians. Towards the end of the classical period, Aristotle noted that women in Sparta owned 2/3 of the land. Aristotle feared that this would lead to government by woman.

Newspaper article with picture of former Italian showgirl Elisabetta Canalis, headline reading: (Italian) "Italy is the country of naked women" 4. Close-up of Canalis 5. Close-up picture of Italian sportscaster, Ilaria d'Amico 6. Various set-ups of journalist and Member of European Parliament, Lilli Gruber 7. SOUNDBITE: (English) Lilli Gruber, journalist and Member of European Parliament: "Girls are operating in an environment where actually there are no clear rules, there is no transparent governance. There is a lack of transparent governance in Italy. So many of them I am sure they think why should they work very hard to get a degree and to be good in their profession when it is much easier if you show a pair of nice... (gestures towards breasts). There are a lot of chauvinists in Italy, but the main problem is that if you are not judged by your competence, but by your looks then of course you have a problem." 8. Various of Web site showing clip of showgirls dancing on Italian nightly early evening television programme "Striscia la Notizia" 9. Various clips of showgirls 10. Set-up of Italian showgirl, Alessia Merz 11. SOUNDBITE: (Italian) Alessia Merz, Italian showgirl: "When you are a television presenter it is not as if, when you're a beautiful woman, you have to cover yourself up in a Kaftan so as not to show your curves, to hide the fact that perhaps you have beautiful breasts, so as not to be in a bathing costume which might reveal your attractive bottom. It does not signify you are an object. It simply means that I am a beautiful woman and I can allow myself to show my body." 12. Various of women in Italian magazine advertisements 13. Set-up of Italian Equal Opportunity Minister, Barbara Pollastrini at her desk with assistant 14. SOUNDBITE: (Italian) Barbara Pollastrini, Italian Equal Opportunity Minister: "Conservatism, blindness are the errors of the predominantly male ruling class. Therefore, I am not ashamed. Shame is a feeling. I fight against those things. I am filled with indignation. That's it, I am not ashamed I am indignant that Italian women are not represented for what they are worth, so I am indignant against the system of advertising that has no respect and I am indignant against the television programmes that show no respect. But in my position I cannot just be indignant and fight, I have to put forward proposals." 15. Wide of flower market 16. Various street scenes with Italian women STORYLINE: Italians at Rome's Fiumicino airport hardly seemed to notice the gigantic poster of the scantily clad woman in her black brassiere as they waited for flights one recent summer morning. It was an advertisement for Intimissimi, an Italian lingerie company, and the advertisement seemed almost restrained by Italian standards. But Italians did notice when a British newspaper recently wrote a long article entitled "Naked Ambition" describing how in Italy it is all about big breasts and curved bottoms. The article said images of sexy Italian showgirls dominate, and that feminism is dead. It noted that in Italy "Naked Ambition" is what counts. The article was accompanied by a photograph of a famous Italian showgirl, Elisabetta Canalis, her breasts emerging from a red bikini as she advertised a cell phone. It also showed a photo of Italian sportscaster, Ilaria d'Amico, dressed in a low-cut black dress and noted that despite being a serious professional she always appears on her programmes scantily dressed surrounded by men in suits and ties. On the surface it appears that Merz's point of view is prevalent. SUPPORT ME ON PATREON: https://www.patreon.com/ManEconomy http://www.maneconomy.com Do men control society or do women control society? Feminists claim that men oppress women in a “patriachical" society. However what do the facts and statistics about society say about this? Education: There are more women at University than men. In 2014 there are only 80 male students for every 100 female students. In the US women are the majority of law and medical students as well as the majority of graduate students. Yet all ‘gender balance” programs within university try to create gender balance by targeting help for women. Another case of ideology driving policy instead of facts driving policy? Health and welfare Let’s start with life expectancy. Across the world women live on average 4.1 years longer than men. Cancer research In the US, roughly the same number of men die from prostate cancer compared to women who die from breast cancer yet both private and public funding is almost double for breast cancer compared to prostate cancer. Homelessness Between 58% and 90% of homeless people are men (data is rare and difficult to collect. I wonder if more resources would be used in research of this issue if women were the majority of homeless.) However most funding to help the homeless is directed at women. Income Full time men earn about 17% more than full time women. However full time men work about this amount more hours than women do (this is the tricky part that the media doesn’t mention). Therefore men and women are paid a similar amount on a per hour basis. Yet men are more likely to die or be injured at work, more likely to choose harder work for higher pay (e.g. working in mines) and of course men start way more businesses than women so also take the majority of the financial risk. Yet, men barely receive a few cents more per hour… Control of sex and reproduction Women have full control of reproduction. Men and society have no say over reproduction. Men also are forced to financially support children that he doesn’t want to have. When it comes to sex women are put on a pedestal and are “the choosers”. If a man grabs a woman on the butt it is worldwide news, if a woman grabs a man on the butt he is laughed at and told he should be thankful. This is entirely socialised. We are taught that women are untouchable and that men are not so. Although the west is by no means a pure matriarchy (although countries like Sweden are pushing towards this) How does the alt left try to argue that western society is a patriarchy? Domestic violence If you listen to western leftist media and leftist governments you would think domestic violence is simply men being violent against women. They have created a stereotype However: Most large data sets suggest that domestic violence by men and women are about equal. Whether or not men are more violent or women are more violent depends on the study and how the data is created, wording of the questions in the survey’s etc (see description for some references) BUT even the “alt left” “guardian newspaper states “The home has long been the focus of feminist analysis as a realm in which men are able to exert their power over women. That may be true, but the statistics on domestic abuse in marriages may well challenge your assumptions. 3.4% of married women reported a case of domestic abuse over the past year. The proportion of men? 3.4%. So the article is basically saying that men are violent against woimen “this is true” but the actual facts will challenge this “truth”. What! The facts are the statistics but there is such a strong bias towards peddling this myth that the author still won’t acknowledge it. The article goes on: Married men and women were also equally likely to be victims of non-sexual family abuse, while for partner abuse and stalking, a greater proportion of men were victims than women. Given that men are less likely than women to report domestic abuse, those figures are also likely to be underestimates.“ So, basically it is more likely that women commit more domestic violence than men. More men are CEOs and are on company boards. This is true. When you look at the people who start businesses they are almost always men. It seems clear that on average women much less interest in starting a business so we can assume in general have less interest in this kind of work. Therefore it makes sense that men will be more inclined to run the business that they start or to run another business. The “alt left” will then argue that women are taught to be inferior to men and believe they therefore lack the confidence to compete with men and to start a business. A great assertion - but is this true? A recent study of young women and girls showed that 86% percent thought they were as good at sport or better at sport than men. This is obviously delusional and showing confidence well in excess of their actual ability.

Female children are set up to compete with each other for male attention and validation by the age of 12. Men and male identified women promote this agenda by blaming women for their man cheating, abusing them, gaming on or abandoning them, and for not "choosing" to be with them long-term. Women are shamed for being single which creates a fear-based mindset and forces women to pick a man (any man) to avoid being labeled "single and lonely".
